In 1994, my first question to a.r.s. was:
why does a religion need so many lawyers?
While I waited for an answer, I tried to be objective and even took up a local FSM's offer to give me a tour of Flag. For asking difficult but honest questions, I was threatened with private investigation into my "crimes".
For the crime of posting to a.r.s., Scientology, Inc. attorneys tried to get me fired from my job at University of South Florida in 1996.
USF has the green and red volumes in its library - Hubbard's policy letters and bulletins that comprise Scn, Inc's operations policies and procedures. I read through them, I read History of Man, All About Radiation, the Philadelphia Doctorate course, several Scn pamphlets like Way to Happiness and the Tone Scale, internal organs published by Scn, Inc., and a variety of crit lit and academic [and "academic"] papers pertaining to Scn, Inc. I'd read Dianetics years before, thinking it wacky and quacky, but harmless.
I was no longer objective.
Here's a few reasons why I picket, protest, and speak out:
1.) Bait and switch - powers promised to Clears and OTs never actually occur.
2.) behavior - Written policy of harrassment of critics and stifling of freedom of speech.
3.) Barratry designed to curb freedom of speech for critics and freedom of religion for freezoners.
4.) The pressure on Scientology's own parishioners that creates a pattern of behavior involving fraud, neglect and abuse.
5.) The abuse of people and the disdain of "wog" law to obtain Scientology, Inc.'s end despite the means.
6.) More than Scientology has ever helped anyone, the behavior of the organization has hurt many many individuals, families, and businesses. This has been recognized in European countries like France and Germany moreso than the US.
7) Scientology, Inc.'s actions do not demonstrate its purported unique ability to help people; rather, they display a unique talent for harassing critics and spending money on PIs and lawyers.
8) Scientology's internal "justice" and "ethics" systems do not respect
the laws of the land. The Introspection Rundown, for instance, can kill.
I'm still waiting for an answer to my first question above.
