Reasons not to picket Scientology 1. OSA might find out who you are, and they'll keep secret files on you which they will share with other Scientologists. You won't even know who those Scientologists might be. They could be newspaper reporters, police or your ISP.
2. OSA might contact your family, just to show you that your family is not exempt from your discussion about Scientology.
3. OSA might contact your employer, or your relative's employers, and tell them you're under investigation for child pornography and illegal drugs.
4. OSA might distort details of your life to in an effort to keep people from listening to what you say about Scientology.
5. OSA might call up the animal shelter and tell them your pets are ill-kept and diseased.
6. OSA might try to stage an illegal act in an attempt to make you guilty by association.
7. Picketing is uncomfortable because it puts you inside the fishbowl, rather than sitting comfortably on the outside looking in.
8. Keith Kenson and Bob Minton got arrested in connection with picketing.
9. Picketing exposes Scientologists to something they might not care to see.
10. Picketing Scientology means that you are a potential victim for acts of retaliation from Scientology, such as being called an "anti-religious extremist."
hmmm ... On second thought, aren't those are the exact sort of things a person would want to peacably protest? At the same time, posting to a newsgroup or picketing is not by any means the only way a person can protest. Sorry if reading this made anyone uncomfortable.

We've had any number of 'critics' who decry Keith's folly. After all,
much like the hostage would be guilty if he forced his hostage taker to
harm him by a lack of cooperation, Keith himself is responsible for
causing Scientology® to go to the extremes it does.
We can almost hear the tortured cries of 'Don't make us do this to you!
Why can't we just get along?!' Obviously the only 'safe' way to criticize Scientology is to go to them humbly and ask what level of criticism wouldn't make them uncomfortable.
After all, we know how they get when they're uncomfortable, and have only ourselves to blame when we cause it.
I've sent a letter to Davey asking what level of criticism I could engage in that wouldn't force him to take action both he and I would regret.
This was the reply:
Dear Mr. Zinjifar, Thank you for your recognition of your own responsibility in causing this upset you have with my Church. Of course Scientology recognizes 'freedom of speech' and your right to criticize us, but because of our beliefs, actually exercising them will force us to perform our Hubbard-given duty to 'ruin you utterly'.
Since you seem like a 'reasonable' sort of wog, I have wracked my brain, and finally come up with a criticism that would allow you to exercise your freedom of speech, without forcing us to commit acts we would both deplore. Try marching around your living room with a sign saying 'Scientology is great, but not as great as it will be once it controls all of Earth'. We feel that this should allow you the venting of your insane need to criticize, while at the same time, allowing us to get on with the important business of clearing the planet in peace. We all like peace don't we?
Please don't take this to mean that such criticism in public would be acceptable though. Scientology would view with disfavor any public statement of less than total compliance, and find it necessary to take any action necessary to destroy the enemies of Mankind, and Keep Scientology Working.
We'll also have to check this with our lawyers, so don't take this as a blanket permission to put just anything on the 'protest' sign you carry in your own living room.
Your Pal Davey Now that's what I call Scientology compromise. Keith just never approached them right!
