No, it's not because scientology introduces new concepts. In fact L. Ron
merely rehashed what has been said before, and better, by wiser people.
It is controversial because, upon close examination, its 50 year history reflects fraud, abuse, violation, intimidation, and other activities more closely related to a criminal syndicate than a church.
Read www.xenu.net, there you will find a vast archive of Scientology's past misdeeds, genyoowine, documented information about how this psycho-terroristic cult has somehow managed to carry on its vile behavior while hiding under the cloak of religiousity.
Then look again at www.scientology.org, and notice the mask the cult uses to (sometimes) fool the unwary and the gullible.
They cannot deny their past. They have very little future. All the evidence of their true nature is available. If, despite this warning, you get slurped up anyway, feel free to come and whine at us later when you regain your sanity and discover you have no savings, no family, no career...there are people here who have dedicated decades of their lives to this scam, and regret it daily.
You can join them, if you're so inclined. We'll still help you when you finally decide to leave them.
