:===Begin Quote=== A group of psychics told police they were sure missing 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart could be found entombed in a crypt in the foothills above Salt Lake City.[...]
Officials from PSI Tech, a Seattle-based company, reported that more than a dozen of its members had determined the location of Elizabeth's body by using a special psychic process they call "Technical Remote Viewing."
Independently, the company claims, 14 visionaries all pointed to a concrete burial vault built by the state of Utah about 10 years ago.

PSI Tech, meanwhile, has this to say::===Begin Quote=== Update In The Elizabeth Smart Investigation http://www.psitech.net/announcements.htm Accessed Mar. 13, 2003
The news that Elizabeth Smart is alive and well comes as a great relief to everyone. We were extremely happy for Elizabeth and for the Smarts upon hearing that she has been reunited with her family. PSI TECH worked this missing person case at the request of the Smart family, and concluded that she was deceased. In PSI TECH’s 13 year history this is the first time we have been wrong about identifying whether a person was alive or dead using the skill of Technical Remote Viewing. This is the result of human error in analyzing the data rather than any flaw with the technology. We will examine what went wrong with our analysis and offer a more detailed conclusion for those who are interested. Humans are certainly fallible and this is a young technology. We extend our sincere best wishes to the Smart family and all those who assisted in the search effort.

Many of PSI Tech's web pages regarding Elizabeth Smart are no longer online, but some can still be found in Google's cache:

error, click on "cached" instead).
Frankly, there must have been lots and lots of "human errors" in their approach to this case - two of them being that they a) have far too much confidence in their alleged abilities and b) put too much trust in their so-called "technology."
See, for example, this report:
:===Begin Quote=== Finding Elizabeth By PSI TECH CEO Dane Spotts August 30, 2002 http://tinyurl.com/7ev0
We tasked our special operations team (14 professional remote viewers) with a number of sessions to locate her body. Technical Remote Viewing is a site specific skill and it generates raw data consisting of sensory perceptions, sketches and descriptive vocabulary. This data is then painstakingly analyzed and put together like a gigantic jigsaw puzzle. To take on a project like this requires many follow-up sessions, continuously working from the general to the specific, carefully cuing targets to zero-in on key identifiers that could lead a ground team to Elizabeth's location. One of the difficulties of finding a body is that if it is located in homogenous terrain, the surroundings are difficult to identify; which mountain, which hole, which stream. It is literally like finding a needle in a haystack.
When we conduct an investigation such as this, we also want to make certain that the data we are looking at is not in anyway contaminated by imagination. One of the key breakthroughs of Technical Remote Viewing (TRV) is its ability to separate out imagination from raw data downloaded from the Matrix. Each of our team members has no idea what the target is that they are remote viewing.
[...]
Remember, all of these individuals tasked are working completely in the blind. They have no knowledge of what the target is or the subject matter that they are remote viewing. For all they know, they could be working on the next terrorist attack or the outcome of the baseball players strike.
What's so amazing is not only that a skilled Technical Remote Viewer is able to gather specific information related to the target but when we task a team working in the blind with the same target cue, they deliver up different pieces of the puzzle that fit together in a very profound way. The target data begins to form an extraordinarily accurate picture of the target site. We never rely on a single session, but use numerous blind TRV sessions to corroborate and validate the collected information.

On June 5, 14 year old Elizabeth Smart was abducted from her Salt Lake City home. Three months have passed without any resolution. At the request of the Smart family in July, PSI TECH's special operations team conducted an extensive investigation using a formally top secret intelligence collection technology originally developed for the Department of Defense. This is a video documentary of what PSI TECH uncovered :===End Quote===
Note that PSI Tech states it is "a 13 year old company utilizing a skill that was developed by the United States Dept. of Defense (at tax payers' expense) for intelligence gathering purposes":
