From AP today:
ALEXANDRIA, Egypt (AP) -- Thousands of Muslims rioted outside a Coptic Christian church Friday to denounce a play deemed offensive to Islam, prompting police to beat protesters and fire tear gas into the crowd, officials said. One person died and more than 90 were injured.
Could you imagine the reaction to a picket or the word Xenu if Scientologists were as numerous as Muslims? Dig it, THOUSANDS of these fuckers rioted because their "religion was offended."
Dig it:
Los Angeles, California (SP)--Thousands of Scientologists rioted outside NBC studios in Studio City today, following an interview with Tom Cruise and Dr. Dave Touretzky. The riot began following a focused interrogation of Cruise by Dr. Touretzky, in which one of Scientology's secret scriptures was described.
Windows were shattered and cars overturned as Scientologists, some screaming or weeping, rampaged on studio property, then spilled out into the streets. Scientologists refused to disperse when LAPD arrived on the scene. They seemed to be waiting for orders. Soon, clouds of choking tear gas were rolling down the street, stopping protesters and pigeons alike as LAPD attempted to Clear the area.
Order was finally restored when dozens of yellow-clad "Scientology Disaster Response Teams" moved in and began poking Scientologists until they calmed down and wandered away. While City EMTs and police helped gas victims by bringing in water and irrigating burning eyes, the Scientology Disaster Response Team set up yellow tents and began trying to sell booklets to police and medical teams.
"We are a religion," one gas victim managed to choke out, despite coughing and streaming eyes. "I didn't think this gas would affect me," he added. "I'm OTVII, and have studied Scientology for years. I guess I need to start working on OTVIII right away." He then tried to sell this writer a coffee cart franchise.
"We are a religion, and we have the right to defend ourselves against people who violate our copyrighted material," stated spokesman Jeff Kyros.
A spokesman for NBC expressed concern that this incident may curtail media discussion of Scientology in the future. "I just don't know, I don't think it's worth it," he said, surveying the damage around NBC studios. Damages are estimated to exceed 1.4 million dollars.
LAPD representatives were unable to state why they have no suspects and
have made no arrests, despite hours of videotape from local security
cameras.

"Imagine a church so dangerous, you must sign a release form before you can receive its "spiritual assistance." This assistance might involve holding you against your will for an indefinite period, isolating you from friends and family, and denying you access to appropriate medical care. You will of course be billed for this treatment - assuming you survive it. If not, the release form absolves your caretakers of all responsibility for your suffering and death.
Welcome to the Church of Scientology."
