Why Should I Care?
The Truth Behind The Ritalin Lawsuits
The words of Pastor Martin Niemöller, German anti-Nazi activist during WWII:
First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.You may have heard about the recent lawsuits involving the medication Ritalin. Then they came for the communists and I did not speak out because I was not a communist.
Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me and by then there was no one left to speak out for me.
Unless you have a child who needs this medication, you probably didn't pay much attention to the news.
But you should.
The makers of Ritalin, along with the American Psychiatric Association and CHADD, a non-profit organization for parents of ADD children, have been named in a class action lawsuit. Attorneys in this suit claim that they are doing it "for the children." But, if that is the case, then why now? ADHD was first described in 1902. Ritalin has been in use since 1955.
The truth is that these lawyers are motivated by what could potentially be the largest class action settlement in history - a settlement that could potentially be in the billions of dollars, making the Tobacco Settlement look like pocket change.
The forces behind these lawsuits are anti-psychiatry groups who want to control the treatment of such disorders as depression, ADD, and other mental illnesses that affect millions of Americans. Ritalin is an easy first target. After that, they will go on towards the next diagnosis that they have decided doesn't exist.
Their ultimate goal is to deny medical care to people who need it. Do you want these groups to make your medical decisions? Are we willing to allow doctors to be intimidated by a particular religious or political group?
In the coming months, there will be a lot of misinformation about Ritalin, ADD and the 3% - 5% of American children and adults who live with it everyday.
Please help us as we try to set the record straight.

Actually, ADD symptoms has been described in 1845 by
Dr. med Heinrich Hoffmann (1809-1894) in his book "Struwwelpeter" :-)

Read it for free:
http://www.vcu.edu/hasweb/for/struwwel/struwwel.html About him:
http://www.kirjasto.sci.fi/hhoffman.htm He studied medicine at the universities of Heidelberg, Halle and also in Paris. After graduating in 1833, he worked as a general practitioner in his birth town. From 1851 to 1888 he was the director of the state mental hospital in Frankfurt am Main. During these 37 years he improved in the hospital the psychiatric treatment of the patients, and started raising fund for a new hospital.
(LOL! I don't understand why scientology hasn't attacked this guy in
propaganda)

It is. That lawsuit is handled by scientologist John P. Coale.
However the good news is that it is done by a guy of a cult whose members have no clue about modern technology, so they'll lose. Hey, scientologists believe humans were clams in past lives, Aspirin is about "mental images", reel-to-reel tape recorders are "really cool" and radiation is water-soluble.

They're heaviliy involved--one of their members is a lawyer on the
case--but money, lots of it, is the primary reason for the filing.
Peter Breggin is in the thick of things, having made sure he gets paid no matter _which_ way the case goes.
Scientology's covert operations against Eli Lilly were very costly to that company. Scientology has spent a lot of tax-exempt money in covert and overt operations against Eli Lilly and other pharmaceutical companies. Prozac and Ritalin are two of Scientology's big targets.
Why? This is all to carry out madman L. Ron Hubbard's schemes to take over the field of Mental Health. Every Scientologist is indoctrinated every day with psychiatry as an evil enemy of mankind which must be destroyed.
These Class Action lawsuits are, in the main, lawyers scams. They are awarded hughe fees and usually are the only ones who get anything.

There's no doubt that this has major support and enthusiastic approval from
the cult, since they were not able to eradicate psychiatry by the year 2000
as they had announced. They will most assuredly jump on this bandwagon as
they will perceive it as the vehicle that will sound psychiatry's
death-knell, not to mention the hope of replenishing the rapidly dwindling
war chest funds. John Coale is in on this now as is Peter Breggin (of the
Prozac trial notoriety), whose role is "medical expert."
The attorneys who are actually behind this are the ones who made the billions off the tobacco suits and are unabashedly hoping to walk off with similar amounts. As with most things, timing is the key, and the atmosphere is right for feeding people's fears and ignorances, and making a big noise in front of Congress.
Although $cns will be crowing loudly and some will undoubtedly be taking part in this farce, the motivating factor is probably nothing more than simple greed on the part of the lawyers. The $cns will follow this garbage like flies because they have bought into Hubbard's eevil galactic psychiatry conspiracy and to them, this lawsuit being filed proves to them that their source was right about it.
Take a jaunt over to alt.support.attention.deficit and see what's being discussed over there. The people there are well-informed about $cn, Breggin, Baughman, and the like. It's actually amazing just how many groups are well-informed about the cult and I've an idea that the Great Intergalactic Psychiatry Conspiracy tale will be bandied about in the courtroom.
