A recent exchange between Arnie and others, in which Arnie incorrectly tried to tie criticism of religion with criticism of people who fell for business scam perpetuated on his "friends" by Reed Slatkin, got me to thinking about the correlation of scamming and being an appropriately indoctrinated Scientologist.
I claim that generally speaking, the culture among Scientologists promotes out and out scams at a much higher rate than does WOG culture.
Ponzi schemes and MLM "businesses" scams seem to find very fertile ground among Scientologists. Why?
I would speculate that the hard sell that Scientology pushes, as well as the emotional detachment it brainwashes into people, the ideas that people get what they deserve, and that they "pull in" the bad things that happen to them, make it far more likely that the suffering of others due to the consequences of one's own behaviors, will be overlooked and explained away.
Add a pushy registrar demanding thousands of dollars at every juncture, pound home the idea that you need this expensive training NOW, and that it can't wait, make it difficult to be both a good (rabid) Scientologist, and carry on a normal education or career at the same time, train people how to cheat their family and friends for course money, show them how to cheat and lie to their banks, credit card companies. Then convince people that in just a few short years they'll be Godlike supermen, capable of making their own gold, and you've got a perfect recipe for creating both the Reed Slatkin's of the world, and the victims of Reed Slatkin.
In Scientology, we see lots of people who can take Raul Lopez's money, without thinking twice.
