Dear Producer:
I would like to voice an opinion and submit to you a suggestion with regards to your show on the Paul Ingram/Satanism case, aired December 2, 1991, in which Erika Ingram alleges she was a victim to Satanic ritualistic abuse at the hands of her parents and officers of the law enforcement community in Olympia, Washington.
You were wise to balance the show with guests whom established, with the available medical and physical evidence, that Ms. Ingram's allegations were false and unfounded. It was also interesting to observe Ms.
Ingram's behavior during the show - the shy, reserved, lack of eye contact when she was on her own, changing to her bold, offensive position and comments when she was coddled by her attorney and the evangelist Rev. Bob Larson, whom is well-known for his antics of promoting the "Satanic Panic" in order to promote his anti-Satanism ministry and sell his books on the occult.
I am not privy to all which is involved in the Ingram case, but based on her comments and allegations, you may be wise to know the mirror the same of alleged victims of Satanic cults, whom are outspoken members of the National Cult Awareness Network, based in Chicago.
In fact, the National Cult Awareness Network (CAN) has encouraged and promoted the "satanic panic" in the U.S.
and Canada, publicizing hundreds of allegations of such activities which have proved later to be false and undocumented in fact. This last October, "Inside Edition"
aired an expose of a so-called expert of the occult and Satanic abuse, Pamela Klein, who is acknowledged by CAN as an expert in satanic ritualistic abuse, and Ms. Klein has spoken at CAN-sponsored forums and conventions.
Investigators for "Inside Edition" found, in fact, that Ms. Klein was a total fraud.
I speak with experience to the allegation that the Cult Awareness Network (CAN) has helped to perpetuate this fraud around the nation in order to gain much needed publicity and money. In the years 1978-88, I was paraded around the country and in the international media as a survivor of the Peoples Temple/Jonestown tragedy by CAN.
This not only resulted in enormous favorable publicity and public acceptance of CAN, but bought in thousands of dollars in contributions. Regrettably, it was an elaborate hoax intended by CAN to bilk people of their money.
Please find enclosed a sworn affidavit which summarizes my experiences in the Cult Awareness Network, which I think you will find most interesting. The susbstance of my affidavit has been investigated and corroborated by a Los Angeles private detective. A focus of the affidavit is how I was encouraged to falsify stories on my surviving the Jonestown Tragedy which helped CAN to prosper in many ways. CAN has since recognized that the Jonestown targedy is an old issue and is no longer a selling point to market the organization; CAN has since jumped on the Satanic bandwagon and is using it to flamboyantly promote its efforts and activities.
I would encourage you to review the enclosed affidavit and press clippings and consider this as an issue worthy of a future show. In addition to the interviews I have granted to the international media already, my affidavit has accompanied formal complaints to the Attorney General in several states, the California Bar Assoc. v. Ford Greene (a CAN deprogrammer and attorney), and the Criminal Invesigation Unit of the Internal Revenue Service, whom just recently completed a surprise 3-day audit of CAN's financial records in their secret office in Barrington, Illinois.
Coincidentally, as you will find in the Los Angeles Daily News article, dated 1983, where I am pictured on the front page, the article also quotes Richard Oshe, whom was a guest on your Ingram/Satanism show.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
