Scientology gives lip-service to visiting doctors for medical problems, but the reality is that they think that Hubbard had all the answers - and that the answer is Auditing and a little laying on of hands.
Every time I read some Scientological dialogue out of the general public view, it always reads the same. No matter what the medical problem, auditing will fix it, and then presumably, fix them up with a bunch of other courses.
Interesting how they disclaim mental health science as being unscientific, yet the fact is that they view normal medical science with the same disdain. They just know they can't fight that one in any arena of reasonable discussion without looking like complete kooks.
A quick read of Dianetics will uncover the ludicrous list of what auditing is supposed to cure or treat. Despite the disclaimers, the books are all very plain and straight-forward about the treatment of all kinds of illness and disease.
On MSN:Groups, one mentions the intent to remove the 'problem' (Crohn's disease) by auditing.
Simultaneously, the FZ group is discussing the curing of allergies by the same relentless application of Hubbard's quackery.
So, a sick scieno is a worry because he will be surrounded by a bunch of quackery-vending amateurs who will likely dissuade them from getting professional help. All Scientologists are at risk. Most, I'm sure, manage to get real help before its too late. The rest just become another Scientology Quackery Statistic like Lisa McPherson.
The Lisa McPherson case typifies Scientology's stance. She had very little wrong with her, but the amateur quacks thought they could help her mentally and physically - and failed utterly at both and charging her for it too.
