A couple of weeks ago there was a sudden, tragic death in our immediate family. We are feeling this loss very painfully and will continue to do so for a long time to come.
I was thinking today about Scientology and families. During my brief involvement with the Church of Scientology, the majority of the Scientologists whom I knew had skimpy connections (if any) with family - unless the family happened to be Scientologists.
Of course, this wasn’t true for all. But, by and large, from what I observed, family took a definite back seat to moving up the Bridge and clearing the planet. No one went home for Christmas; instead there was a dreary “event” at the Org with staff playing guitars (badly) and looking uneasy because the food had cost more than the Org could afford.
If you are a Scientologist, I ask you: When you became a Scientologist, did you believe that Scientology would give you skills to improve family relationships? Are your family more or less important to you now than they were before you became a Scientologist? Are you closer to them now than you were before? Do you have fun with them? Do they know that you love them?
