There are a lot of different models of the mind including one pieced together by Hubbard. People who buy into Hubbard's "Model of the Mind," like what was posted below on a FreeZone discussion Board, are what keeps Scientology going.
Scientology has no monopoly on wacky beliefs and wacky beliefs are not what sets Scientology or Hubbard apart from other charlatans.
What sets Scientology apart is that day in and day out it perpetrates fraud, abuses people, destroys people, deceives people, abuses children, lies to and about people, betrays people and occasionally kills people, all in the name of making money. These actions violate not only the law but also the human rights and civil rights of people touched by Scientology. Further, Scientology abhors criticism so much that it hides behind a false mantle of religion to promote and justify hatred and bigotry by its members, attorneys, private investigators and cult apologists towards critics. These people, both in and out of Scientology, have had no recourse against this evil organization created by and run in the image, likeness and character of L. Ron Hubbard. We at the Lisa McPherson Trust are trying to establish recourse for people when Scientology violates the law or violates their civil or human rights.
As long as Scientology behaves as it does now, I will not hesitate to warn people about, first and foremost, the BEHAVIOR of Scientology and secondly, the SECRET beliefs that Scientology is too afraid for potential recruits to learn about. New recruits in countries where the internet is a major factor have been virtually eliminated from Scientology over the last 5 years due to the large quantity of information on the Web which focuses specifically on the abhorrent BEHAVIOR of Scientology AND the SECRET teachings of Hubbard. In my opinion this is a positive development because all those people who did not join Scientology were spared the likelihood of being defrauded, abused, destroyed, deceived, lied to, betrayed or killed all in the name of making money.
There is nothing I would like better than to see Scientology transformed into a harmless group of adherents to Hubbard's "Model of the Mind". I would then be happy to go away and leave the subject of Scientology alone. Moreover, I would happily defend your right to hold those beliefs.
Until then, I would suggest to the freezoners that you spend less time touting Hubbard's Tech which is so soiled by the filth of Scientology (the Organization) and become activists in trying to establish recourse for people who have been harmed by Scientology. This is the only chance that FreeZone AKA "non-totalitarian" Scientology has to develop, i.e. by "cleaning-up" the organization of Scientology and thus remove the stench surrounding the entire subject of Scientology. Otherwise the current organization will irreparably discredit the subject of Scientology beyond the FreeZone's ability to repair.

>There is currently an argument going on A.R.S. (no surprise there!) about

>presenting that the core belief is that the individual human being is a
>composite of mind, thetan, body thetans, and physical body, and possibly the
>genetic entity. To simplify, I will call both body thetans and genetic
>entity "entities", which will also refer to any other beings that might be
>in communication on any level with the thetan, which I will use the term
>analyzer to represent. Thus, they present that the central belief is that
>the individual is composed of body, mind, analyzer, and entities. They do
>this in order to set scientology up for their attack, which is that there is
>no scientific evidence for the existence of the Thetan or entities. This is
>their argument that scientology is not a science, that it accepts beliefs
>which have no evidence, and cannot be either proven or disproven. Then they
>attack the premise that it is a religion because, essentially, the Church
>does not act "religious" (nice, in their defintion). Then, they call
>scientology a fraud because it is neither a science, nor a religion. Nice
>little package of attacks (the religious attack fails, the science attack
>cannot be refuted). I have presented my own argument, which is that the GPM
>(here I am finally getting to the connection to this thread) is the central
>belief of scientology, and I believe this. This is because ALL auditing
>revolves around resolving whatever charge the pc or pre-OT has in
>restimulation, or potentially there to restimulate, due to whatever GPM he

>GPMs, is done to alleviate, or reduce, the amount of force that the actual
>GPM exerts in control of the pcs mind, without tackling the GPM directly.
>The same is true of OT III, which is a particular Implant Platen, and deals
>with entities only because they supposedly share the charge of this implant

>The GPM is core, and every action in auditing is undertaken to relieve part

>on directly, in scientology, on ANY level in the orthodox Church, although
>perhaps Ron's Orgs address it, I don't know, they suffer from the same
>confidentiality-itis that the Church has. Arguments about restimulative
>nature of upper level materials hold no water with me. If the material
>restimulates, then audit it, it is accessible, or handle by means of
>objective processes to key out, if too difficult to handle directly. If it
>does not restimulate, or is unreal, the PC does not need to run this, and it
>is NOT CURRENTLY HIS ITEM. The only argument that makes sense to me about
>keeping these materials confidential is that you believe they bring down the
>credibility of the subject, and therefore cannot sell it to people. However,
>if you are not primarily motivated to sell the subject, this is not a
>concern. People will reach for the parts of it that are real to them.
>Keeping it confidential creates a mystery, and no thetan can abide a
>mystery- it creates a game, where the thetan wants to know, and the Church,
>or other org, is put in a situation where they are running a "can't have"
>process on the interested party. This is an unsuccessful way to process the
>group, or the individual. Can't have is low tone. Market the area that is
>real to the greatest section of the population, and acknowledge the
>existence of other materials.
>
>Anyway, my point is that the GPM is the central part of the case, and the
>central belief in scientology, and should be addressed. Only when the GPM is
>handled, totally, is the person FREE to be whoever he wants to be, and not
>locked into roles defined by the GPM. Only then could the person address
>earlier GPMs, if they really exist, until there are no more GPMs, actual or
>implanted, to run. At this point, you should have a person that is in such
>good shape that NOTHING can slow them down, never mind stopping them. Along
>the way, one would run into every class of entity that actually exists, or
>that the person could postulate, and handle them with techniques like NOTS
>or Excalibur, or other entity handling techniques. In other words, directly
>handling entities is only necessary where they are keeping the pre-OT from
>the program of handling the GPM, and perhaps earlier GPMs. As I have said
>before, and will repeat here, handling them is done only to return the
>pc/pre-OT to his program. Anything else violates basic C/Sing principles,
>and might be the reason so many upper level students/pre-OTs leave the
>subject. IT ISN'T THEIR ITEM, and is restimulating something that is
>contra-indicated, particularly if that person is finding themselves LOSING
>at the present game of life. One cannot make case gain in the presence of a
>present time problem (losing is a present time problem). An OT is a person
>that is Cause, and this is ridiculous if the person has overwhelming
>problems with money, housing, health, or any dynamic completely out of
>whack.
>
>I've had my say.
And I had to have mine.
