I've been trying to understand how it is possible for victims of Scientology to have their personalities radically changed from their pre-cult selves to their cult-selves and post-cult selves. There is actually a very good explanation: Dissociative Disorders, Non- Specified (diagnosis 300.15). In effect, one can say that the cult-self has been taken over by the cult's group identity: in this case, the dope field L.R. Hubbard---- the cult attemps to erase the authentic self and replace it with a group self that mimics Scientology's founder. Since Hubbard was paranoid and schizophrenic, those who have been reprogrammed by Scientology mind control take on the mental illnesses Hubbard had.
The classic example is, of course, Lisa McPherson's tormenters. A normal, mentally health individual could not tie a woman down and torture her to death: by the valid accounts of Hubbard's personality, he was very capable of doing such a sick deed. Therefore, the cult-self induced via Scientology mind control in reprogramming McPherson's captors altered their authentic selves and tuirned them into Hubbard-like cult-selves.
The studies done on mind control such as Scientology engages in shows that the techniques are frightenly simple and effective: any given human being can succumb to mind control given the proper treatment, and that treatment may be subtle and appear harmless. However, the studies also note that mind control is never 100% accomplished: the authentic self still resides inside, only it has been subverted by the cult.
Techniques such as "Thought Stopping," which Scientology's "TRs" are designed to do, are in place to prevent reality testing by the cult-self. Prevention of reality testing is required to keep the authentic-self from reasserting itself; constant reprogramming is required to keep the cult-self dominate, least doubt and critical thinking abilities reassert.
The major control Scientology has over its current victims are phobias that the crime syndicate implants within its victims. Hubbard knew this when he told his victims that they must remain ignorant about Scientology and its "inner teachings" least they "go insane" or "die of disease," though Hubbard also included more mundane fears such as pumnishing slave labor, harassment, assault and battery, being emprisioned in a Scientology compound, or framed for crimes. These phobias were and are being continuously reinforced with "Sec Checks,"
and this is one of the reasons why people on line for OT Seven are being subjected to "Sec Checks" every six months (that reason, plus the US$8000+ each "sec check" costs each victim).
It is heartening to note that the Internet has done a huge service to current and potential victims of Scientology by doing away with much of that cult-induced phobia. OTIII material, said by Hubbard to kill thos who are not "ready" for it, has been read by hundreds of thousands (perhaps millions) on the Internet, and no one has died from reading it. Protesting and picketing Scientology's crimes and human rights abuses is now occuring is every major "westernized" city in the world, and the crime syndicate's "Fair Game" policy, even when ruinning full throttle, has not silenced those criticisms. It is my opinion that victims of Scientology are now "blowing" in record numbers because the cult-inducted phobia in doing so has been vastly reduced thanks to the Internet.
I have posted a dozen articles concerning various issues regarding Scientology and Mind Control.
