This is so true. From my experiences, I got that you are fully
expected to pay exhorbitant fees RIGHT NOW - in advance. Always great
urgency to take your money, find out if you have more and take that
and then when it's all gone get you a loan or credit cards and put you
deeply in debt. They are like crack whores, desperate for money so
they can fix up their stats and keep their pimp uplines from punishing
them with ethics, but once they have your cash in hand they'd rather
not be bothered with you. so, you are held hostage to wait and wait
and wait - days, weeks, months. During this time, you may interact
with a staff that is barely competent or glaringly incompetent and, if
you put any pressure on them to deliver or make any noise, you'll
often find they are less pleasant than the average angst ridden
teenager ;-) finally, if you are lucky (or un-lucky i should say, in
retrospect) you are given an auditor and often a newbie auditor who is
sweating bullets because he's just learning his craft and really has
no clue how to handle things. Yep, now that's worth $300+ and hour.

After a long haitus from the church, I had a weak moment and let them con me into signing up for services at Flag. At that time I really, honestly needed help for the first time in my life. I was hurting big time. So, they said they needed $8,000 and that I should go there IMMEDIATELY. I managed to scrape up the 8K and on top of that booked a direct flight for a few days later - the air fare set me back $900.
They where supposed to have setup a 'special program' for me. I was assured they handled cases/conditions/situations like mine all the time - no problem. Not only could they help me, but I'd feel like a million bucks when I left. So, I arrived at the Mecca of Technical Perfection. No one seemed to have a clue who I was or what I was there for. The person who pressured me into coming immediately walked by me in the lobby and said she'd get right with me, but I never saw her again because, in the meantime, I ran into my Flag FSM. I told him that I'd twice been to appointments with a psychologist and a psychiatrist for about 15 minutes each time because my HMO insisted on it as part of a 'pain management' program. He completely flipped out.
He went away for awhile and next thing you know, he's back saying "You're gonna have to leave, NOW. Flag has standards. We can't have anyone jumping off the 7th floor of the Ft. Harrison". I said "Who the hell gave you that idea". And he said - "Well, you did. I can't believe you went to a psychiatrist." I told him it was no big deal and that all I did was talk to the guys for like 15 mins each time and finally I tried something called Elavil for about 10 days that the psyche gave me to help me sleep while in pain. Anyway, he wouldn't hear it. A goon squad showed up to escort me to my room and pick up my things and then to route out by signing a shitload of forms.
Evidentally I had just been ceremoniously labelled a potentially 'illegal preclear' by means of 'extensive psychiatric treatment'. I was there just shortly after the Lisa McPhearson debacle, although I didn't know about it at that time, so I'm guessing they were ultra paranoid.
So, I got no auditing, just second guessing, abuse and humiliation. No understanding - of course - they where completely unreasonable. No compassion. I'm booted out of the hotel room I paid for in advance, stuck in Tampa without a clue of where to stay, how to get there, what to do. Have a return flight booked for 10 days later, which again cost me about $450. And they are holding 8K of my money hostage, plus my lodging fees. So, I crash in a dive hotel and spend the week trying to get my money back. Finally did, after 6 days. But, I was crushed, heartbroken. After all, I'd been banished from the group that was going to 'help' me, save my ass, and guarantee my spiritual well beingness for all eternity. That was by no means the end of my fiasco with the Church, but finally I got a clue and found the door.
