October 2, 2005 -- A FORMER Scientology staffer is breaking her silence about being sexually assaulted 100 times at ages 16 and 17 by the church supervisor she was "ordered" to live with, and then receiving threats and intimidating phone calls when she reported the abuse. Five years ago, Gabriel Williams, then a 27-year-old chief supervisor at the Church of Scientology in Mountain View, Calif., forced then-16-year-old Jennifer Stewart to have intercourse with him on the first evening she moved in, according to her statements in court records.

After Williams was charged with rape and sodomy with a minor - and later convicted of sexual battery and sodomy - Stewart's family endured death threats, stalkers and other harassment.

"We want the world to know that when Tom Cruise calls psychiatry a 'pseudoscience,' it's all part of Scientology's plan to brainwash people," said Stewart's husband, Tom Gorman, referring to the actor's "Today" show interview in June.

Stewart believed that if she went to the police, she would not be able to avoid being sent to a psychiatrist. According to Scientology, psychiatry is a source of evil. Members who see "psychs" or take psychiatric drugs will be declared "SP" - "suppressive person" - and can't achieve spiritual freedom.

In a related civil suit brought by Stewart against Williams and the church, she recently received as part of the settlement a "generous monetary resolution," said her attorney. Although the church admitted no wrongdoing, it forked over about $700,000, sources say.

Stewart's ordeal began in 2000, when she became a supervisor under Williams at the church in the San Francisco area, where she and Gorman were raised as Scientologists. She had come to know Williams as someone who made "lots of overt sexual comments" about women, she says.

Still, she was told by a senior church staffer that the church had "ordered her" to work from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and to live with Williams and his fianc=E9e at their San Jose flat, which was closer to the church than her home, making carpooling easier, she says.

"At the time, Williams was a highly regarded member of the church, so the arrangement seemed safe," said her father, Michael Stewart. According to court documents, the church said it "refutes any 'order' by management instructing the victim to stay with" Williams.

After Williams assaulted Stewart the first night, he did so again the next, telling her, "I'll kill you if you say anything," according to the police report.

"Williams told me everything that was happening was my fault because I'd been evil in a past life," said Stewart. "If I told anyone, I'd be sent to a psych and be taken away from my family."

Only after Gorman became suspicious of bruises on Stewart's body in May 2001 did she admit what Williams had been doing, he said.

THE next day, Gorman and Stewart told Stewart's father. Michael Stewart took his family out of the church and hid his daughter. A few days later, he told church authorities what Williams had done.

"A deputy special affairs officer told me not to go to the police," said the elder Stewart. "If we did, we'd lose Jennifer to child services."

"The church had no knowledge of the relationship between Williams and Stewart, and upon learning of the allegations and determining that Gabe and Jennifer were indeed having a relationship, Gabe was immediately fired," said Jeff Quiros, president of the Church of Scientology San Francisco.

Quiros sent The Post several testimonials from acquaintances and colleagues of Stewart and Gorman, which he said would have been entered as evidence in the criminal proceedings had Williams not struck a plea deal that settled the case without trial.

Elliot Abelson, an attorney for Quiros' church, emphasized that the church never knew about Williams' behavior, that Williams was fired within a day of them finding out about the allegations, and that there have been no other such cases within the church.

Michael Stewart finally went to the cops on his daughter's 18th birthday, when the fear of losing her to the state no longer loomed.

More than a year after his last assault on Stewart, Williams was arrested in Florida in 2002 by a San Jose detective, according to the DA in the case.

While Williams was waiting for his criminal case to be heard, Stewart, who married Gorman in 2002 and now lives with his family in San Francisco, filed a civil suit against him and the church.

That was when the threats began, they say. On one occasion, a man phoned Gorman's father and said, "SPs don't live long. Your son and his wife, Jennifer, will be dead soon," according to a police report.

"Who else would use the term 'SP'?" said the younger Gorman. Such incidents continued up until three months ago, he says.

After doing about eight months in jail, Williams was released last year. Now on probation, he lives in Clearlake Oaks, Calif., with his wife and two kids.

"I paid my debt to society in this matter, and I was not found liable in the civil action," Williams said through his attorney.

Scientology Sex Assault

This is another revolting example of how the "church" of Scientology betrays the trust of those who believe in its religiousity. I find it particularly repugnant that the victim and her family were subjected to Scientology-style harassment and intimidation after they spoke out.

Their spokesman, ex-Gambino Family lawyer Elliot Abelson, is lying when he states that this sort of thing has never happened before within Scientology. There certainly is a history of sexual abuse within the cult, as well as its "drug rehab" program, Narconon and the Mace Kingsley school run by Scientologists.

In 1995, Scientologist in good standing Donald (Tony) Strawn was sentenced to thirty years in prison for molesting two minor children, aged 11 and 13 respectively. He was sentenced to thirty years in prison, and is still incarcerated.

Wally Hanks is one who got away. He worked at the Mace Kingsley School in California, a Scientology-operated establishment which moved to New Mexico, and subsequently Florida. A google search will reveal too many accounts of adolescent girls being molested by Hanks, who committed other abuses upon the boys. He was never indicted, and could still be working with the children of Scientologists.

People considering any interaction with the "church" of Scientology should first search the web. Jennifer Stewart is not the first victim of child molesters within Scientology. And Elliot Abelson isn't the first Scientology representative to lie about it.

I see her listed as Susan Fieley there (if I'm making the name out correctly). So if she did marry him and take his name, she'd be Susan Williams. But the woman who said she'd been married 24 years was Susanne Williams.

In a legal consequence of his felony convictions for statutory rape and sexual battery, Gabriel Scott Williams is required to register as a sex offender with the State of California.

Although the Santa Clara County District Attorney originally charged Williams with forcible rape and other charges of violent behavior sufficiently severe to cause bail to be set at $10,000,000, Williams' supporters made sure that declarations of Ms. Stewart nee Gorman's "friends," which stated she was "in love with Gabe," "had sex with Gabe" and so on, caused the prosecutor to back off both from taking the case to trial and pursuing the rape count. Doing his time in county jail as a condition of probation, Williams never went to State Prison where he might have to face being Bubba's shower toy. He got off easy and is probably back auditing by now.

I wonder how long those declarations had been eating a hole in a file in Scientology's Office of Special Affairs Legal? Probably since Jeff Quiros warned Jennifer's father not to report Williams' abuse and torture of his daughter to the police because as a minor CPS would get her, and everybody knows it was a hop, skip and a jump to the psychs from there.

And you know what happens when THEY get a hold of you.

Wog systems or processes by definition have no justice.

Like Vicki Aznaran's declarations recanting of 1000s of pages of detailed deposition testimony, OSA held the betraying declarations of Jennifer's peers for the time when DM is likely to have said, "use them now." That was one part of what I suspect was a multi-pronged strategy of damage control. But such damage control did nothing to address the engineering of the atrocity producing situation (like Abu Graib) by Scientology which featured extreme power disparities, absence of oversight and a total void of accountability when it at 11:30 at night - on what Jennifer says was a written RTC order - indefinitely placed her in Gabriel Scott Williams' one bedroom apartment. So started eight months of sadism to which Jennifer was subjected "for her own good."

I suspect that Scientology's strategy as to Gabriel Scott Williams - a Flag Trained Golden Age of Tech Supervisor - that David Miscavige reportedly deigned a Kha-Khan who would "make Mountain View go Saint Hill Size and win the Birthday Game" - was to insure that the criminal rap stopped with him. I don't think Scientology declared Williams a Suppressive Person. But if they did, he could still make amends (steps A to E) and have the SP Declare lifted after he made enough of those amends. Either way, doing what it took to preserve his line on immorthetanality by staying a Scientologist - even if one with shaky standing - I suspect he pleaded guilty.

Meanwhile it would be customary for Eugene Ingram to be busy making sure Williams' public defender obtained statements taylored to defame, degrade and destroy Jennifer's credibility.

Such strategy would insure that Scientology avoided the righteous tagging of child molester paint.

And Tom would not have to publicly describe why he thinks Jennifer is an SP. That might present a cluster-fuck for the Oprah Project.

It might be interesting to find out who these "friends" were - whether there are "new" people, or the "usual suspects", i.e. scientologists who have been involved in dirty operations before. If there are "new" people, then it would mean that every ordinary staff member is willing to commit perjury for his "group".

Scientology management apparently follows the Hubbard policy that Scientologists have ethics protection when "upstat," which means that they can get away with crimes while they are producing for the organization. This policy has demonstrably resulted in gross cases of rape, child abuse and spousal abuse where the abuser has high auditing hours, book sales, case supervision hours, etc. but nobody speaks out to law enforcement and the crimes continue unreported.

It goes against the law of the land. It violates basic human rights. It even violates the Way to Happiness. It must stop now.

Critics may ask why one would focus on this area when so many other issues have been raised. My opinion is that Scientology orgs are a blind spot for society and law enforcement. Orgs operate unlicensed, unmonitored counseling services which target and appeal to some of the most fragile and vulnerable people, yet apparently have no accountability for the actions of their members except within the group. Because of the ethics protection policy, years can pass before the crimes are even known about by society at large if they are ever revealed, and it is difficult to develop cases and violence has done untold damage to the victims. One could surmise that this is a strategy of senior Scientology management and that that they will resist any effort to monitor their activities externally in this regard.

Witnesses and victims need to step forward. Professional abuse counselors and representatives of law enforcement need to be involved in a solution that can be applied to all Scientology organizations.

Scientology must stop shielding rapists, child abusers and spousal abusers.
