As the parent of a Sea Org. member I am deeply concerned about the direction the church is going in. I am also very frustrated.
If I overtly oppose Church management I will not be able to communicate with my child. I believe many caring Scientologists are in similar circumstances.
Well, the very least I can do is to post some news about what is currently happening within the Orgs. First of all, I have noticed that the `deadfile' policies are really being used.
The least little bit of criticism in written form will cause you to be deadfiled. This is creating a lot of silence because many people have kids in the Sea Org. If you are deadfiled you won't be able to communicate to your son or daughter! Essentially, all your written communication is thrown in the trash. Also, I have heard that those policies are now being extended to KRs.
So, if you write a KR that in any way criticizes or questions the status quo you are in danger of being deadfiled.
For the last few years quite a few Sea Org. members have been trained to do `roll back'. The theory behind this is that if stats are down it is because there is black PR in the field.
If it is found that someone doesn't like the Golden Age of Tech.
or is reported to be disaffected or something or even says he doesn't like a film he may be called in to ethics, given a metered interview and `rolled back'. What is this? The `black PR' or enemy line is mentioned to the person and then he is asked who he heard that from. As an example, the interviewer will ask:
"Who told you that David Miscavige has homosexual tendencies?"
The question is repeated until you give the interviewer a name or names of people who are spreading this black PR. If you don't come up with a name, in other words, rat on one of your friends, you are at risk of being considered the originator of black PR yourself. Because this is not considered auditing, no approval from the Case Supervisor is gotten. Also, barely trained people who have had very little auditing are doing these interviews on people who are higher up in terms of auditing and training.
Currently, there is a special Sea Org. mission that is doing roll backs in the Los Angeles area. It is being headed up by Lisa Hamilton, the Dir. of Inspections and Reports for the Western U.S. This is an investigative type post.
If you have some disagreement with the Golden Age of Tech. and you are fool hardy enough to write it up, you have an excellent chance of having heavy justice actions taken on you and if you don't back peddle quickly and vociferously you stand a very good chance of being kicked out of the Church. Some very respected long term tech. terminals have been kicked out. One is Chris Montgomery. She was the Briefing Course Supervisor for many years and was well loved. I think she went in and did the steps to get herself back into good standing. In other words, she took some responsibility but then chickened out later. It must have been too hard for her to face disconnection from friends and family. I have heard that the head of the Auditor's Association recently came very close to being declared for speaking out about the Golden Age of Tech. She then realized that she would probably get declared, so she wrote something up saying she was sorry and that she just had heavy Service Facs keyed in or something. In other words, she `made ethics change' (or pretended to). Taking into consideration the fact that many of the Ethics staff members are very young, when an older Scientologist who is trained and experienced does a phoney ethics condition to stay in good standing and pretends to be happy about it, it validates the misapplication of ethics. It makes it look like people are really having wins from compromising their own realities.
Don't forget, many of these young Sea Org. members have little or no tech. training.
This heavy ethics line is also being used to get in money. Let's say someone on course writes a KR that is critical of the Golden Age or Tech. They get sent to Ethics. If they don't back down completely they get into some justice cycle and they are ordered to be Sec. Checked at their own expense.
This has happened. Eventually they cognite that they have to pretend to come to the realization of how wrong they've been and use their ARC X needle (an ARC X needle looks exactly like a floating needle) by pretending it is a floating needle, smile and voice how much better they feel. I have heard that they don't even fly rudiments now before they do Security Checks.
I don't know what happens to the person's case from these handlings.
Anyway, because they utlimately realize that unless they get with the program they'll be kicked out and probably lose their job and friends they learn how to play the game.
This results in people in the know shunning the Orgs because they are afraid that they'll be pulled in for a roll back or will be written up. Also, because there is an effort to get all auditors to go in and do the Golden Age of Tech, which if you are a Class 4 probably would cost you somewhere between $13,000 and $20,000, many auditors try and become as invisible as possible. The theory is, they figure if they don't make any noise the people at the Org. will forget about them and forget to suspend or cancel their certificates.
There are several other strategies. Several field auditors are doing the Golden Age of Tech. – but very, very slowly. The Supervisors may get very frustrated, but the stats have been so low for so long that even a slow student is better than no student.
One long time field auditor was on a very long cycle of false data stripping. The other tactics are to pretend to be physically ill. Or to be broke. Or to be handling some PTS situation.
Support for the Organization to some degree consists of people who have no idea about the tech alterations or about the severe ethics that is going on. They have had wins using Scientology, consider that Scientology is their religion, but haven't done any courses in a long time. Lots of people are not trained very much and just figure that if they see something is a little weird that they don't know enough about the subject to really know if anything is seriously wrong. So there are lots of people who work for Scientology companies, have Scientology friends and family and believe in Scientology and support the organization because they figure it's doing OK. They just don't know what's been going on. However, many of these people have the impression that something is wrong because they can't seem to make it on course or in auditing. But they usually blame themselves. The Org., of course, reinforces this by projecting the blame away from itself and on to the individual.
One aspect of the Golden Age of Tech is that it demands a lot of rote memorization. They say this isn't so – but it is. People sometimes like this. After all, don't Jews and Catholics have to memorize a lot? Also, most education demands a lot of memorization.
It's accepted in society.
I have heard that ASHO recently went `old Saint Hill' size.
Someone said that they are doing 200 well done auditing hours a week. I don't know if this is true. The last few times that I went to the complex the place was pretty empty. They did, however, import about 30 people from some Org. in Hungary to do training at ASHO.
One thing is interesting, though. There are really a lot of new, very young Sea Org. members. This has been true for a few years. More of the older, technically experienced Sea Org. members seem to have left or are on the RPF or are on lower posts. For example, Pete Specker, who is a Class 8 at least, and who had a very high post as the Qual Exec Int is now a folder page at AOLA. Also, Vic Ueckerman, who also is an OT and highly trained, is currently a folder page or on some very menial post. He used to be the Cramming Officer AOLA.
It looks like a lot of the technically trained people who remain at AOLA have made the decision to stay because they are too sick and too old to survive outside of the Sea Org. Also, they may think that this is just a current bad time. They are receiving only propaganda. They may have no idea what the over-all scene is.
Many of them may be protesting in whatever way they can. They are probably hoping that they will receive some sort of support from public Scientologists.
Anyway, I will try to post more. We need reform! Perhaps if we spread knowledge there will be increased responsibility and control. (The KRC triangle.)
Thanks for your insights into current resistance within the cult. Most people here have come to the ultimate cognition of scientology i.e. "Hubbard was nuts and it's all nonsense", though I have sympathy for those who linger a while on Metha-Zone.
They are doing exactly the right thing to passively resist.
There are the instruments -- hierarchy, newsletters, channels of commun- ication -- by which a change of leadership could be made to stick. (Most organisations in this society are authoritarian in nature not under real control of the members, so that a new ruling group can simply seize the levers of power and make it stick).
But where is the step in between?
There is not even the appearance of any democratic congress, or any mechanism of responding to justified criticism. The necessary mechanism would seem to be that of palace revolution: the new controlling group would need to seize all the old leaders and bus them bound and gagged to Happy Valley. But then they would need to know instantly how to take over control, issue commands, get each region loyal to them, etc.
You can be sure that PoodleBoy is careful to watch for any possible dissent close to him --- mostly by employing talentless bootlickers in his inner circle, who have not the talent to take over the helm.
