Letters to the editor
[snip]
Here if you need anything
I found the two anti-psychiatry letters in "Disease modeling" [Thursday's Northwest Voices] interesting, so I decided to Yahoo! the writers' names.
Cassandra Auerbach of Thousand Oaks, Calif., ["Jumping on the couch"] has her own Web page about Scientology, and her name appears on many other Scientology-related sites. Bert Schippers of Seattle ["Landing on their feet"] has a Web page about the Church of Scientology of Washington state.
With the recent flap over Tom Cruise's criticism of Brooke Shields' advocacy of antidepressants, the Scientologists are apparently monitoring the media's coverage of related issues so they can advance their own views ["Celebrities are giving Scientology exposure," Living, June 25].
Thanks to the World Wide Web, readers can now easily learn whether those who write letters to the editor are expressing their own opinions or are forwarding the agenda of some organization.
