The combine harvester, the washing machine, the automatic dial telephone, the T-model Ford, all took jobs away from ordinary people and forced them into factory work in abysmal, grimy cities. The automating of the dark satanic factories has forced them, a century later, into taxi driving, prostitution, suburban burglary, selling Scientology, deep massage and busking.
