When People magazine hits the stands on July 21 in the US, anti-Scientologists will be up in arms, again. For in this issue, Hollywood star Tom Cruise has spoken about how Scientology helped him overcome dyslexia.
In 1986, after the success of his film Top Gun, the handsome hero joined the Church[sic] of Scientology and has been an ardent devotee since.
"I realised that I could absolutely learn anything that I wanted to by using the Study Technology (developed by the L Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology)," says Cruise.
Currently, Scientology is the most popular "religion" in Hollywood.
Nicole Kidman, John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Ann Archer, Jenna Elfman, Lisa Marie Presley are some of the famous Scientologists.
L Ron Hubbard, a science fiction author, established the Church[sic] of Scientology in 1954. This obscure writer became famous after publishing "Dianetics: The modern science of mental health." Based on its principle was established the Church[sic] of Scientology offering greater happiness, ability and solutions to all problems in life.
Ron's followers claim that he was the man who solved the riddle of the human mind. Ironically, prior to Ron's mysterious death in 1986, he became a virtual prisoner of his own paranoia, a recluse in self-imposed exile.
His son, Ron Hubbard Jr, says of his father: "My father did not worship Satan. He thought he was Satan. In his private circle there were many mistresses. He had an incredibly violent temper; he beat his mistresses and shot them up with drugs. As a child I have even taken part in few sexual orgies with him and his mistresses." The FBI files described Ron as a mental case.
Scientology is banned in Greece and not tolerated in many other countries. Germany went to the extent of stopping the shooting of Travolta's and Cruise's films in the country in 1997. The church[sic] is said to have extreme rituals and initiation process. Members are suspected to be enslaved by brainwashing. Forced abortions, beatings, starvation are considered tools of discipline in this church[sic].
The Church[sic] of Scientology was a major bone of contention between Tom Cruise and his then wife Nicole Kidman. Witnesses say that she was visibly upset by the way the members of the church[sic] always surrounded Tom even during their wedding ceremony. In spite of all the controversies, Ron built an empire worth millions of dollars and established a "religion" that has many celebrity followers.
