Cruise ripped for plugging Scientology Wednesday 15th December, 2004 Big News Network.com
Tom Cruise apparently won't win any prizes for using last week's Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo as a platform to plug Scientology.
The Collateral star and Oprah Winfrey co-hosted Saturday's event, which featured such performers as Cyndi Lauper, Patti Labelle and Diana Krall, MSNBC reported Tuesday.
One of the things that we believe in (as Scientologists) is peace, freedom, Cruise said in promoting the concert, which will be broadcast in the United States Dec. 23. I'm just proud to be here, and very proud to be a Scientologist here and to be part of this.
One critic thought Cruise lacked competent public relations advice.
Mr. Cruise's comments are laughable -- Scientology is hardly the epitome of peace and freedom, Scientology critic Rick Ross, who runs Cultnews.net, told The Scoop.
"It's sad to see Tom Cruise suffering so badly without Pat Kingsley (Cruise's former publicist replaced by his Scientologist sister) by his side. She would have warned him, 'Don't talk so much about Scientology or people won't remember you for anything else.'
Given Scientology's sordid history of ... lawsuits, they're hardly an example that any thinking celebrity would link to the Nobel Peace Prize.

Tom Cruise Can't Stop Talking About Scientology December 14, 2004
Tom Cruise has publicly credited Scientology for curing his dyslexia, but the cult's "tech" has seemingly replaced the learning disorder with a severe form of OCD: Every time Cruise sees a microphone, he feels compelled to talk about the "Church" until the offending audio equipment is removed. The actor's latest cry for help occurred at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert:
"One of the things that we believe in [as Scientologists] is peace, freedom," Cruise said when promoting the concert, which will be broadcast in the U.S. on Dec. 23. "I'm just proud to be here, and very proud to be a Scientologist here and to be part of this."
Unfortunately for Cruise, the venue was littered with OCD-activating mics. The actor spent hours wandering the event, futiley trying to collect a Scientology tithe from every member of the media while repeatedly mumbling, "Hubbard, Hubbard, Hubbard..."

Defamer: Tom Cruise: Love Affair With Scientology Still Burns http://www.defamer.com/hollywood/gossip/tom-cruise/tom-cruise-love-affair-with-scientology-still-burns-025772.php
Free of the cast-iron muzzle that superflack Pat Kingsley used to prevent him from babbling about Scientology every time a writer put a tape recorder under his chin, Tom Cruise once again holds forth about his religion's finer points in this month's GQ. Remember those old werewolf movies, where the afflicted man would ask his friends to lock him in a room before the full moon appeared, begging them not to let him out no matter what he said? Now that his sister/fellow Scientologist LeAnne Devette is running the show, there's no one left to keep him locked up until the moon passes.
Predictably, the unleashed Cruise attacks Scientology's mortal enemy, science psychiatry:
"Why couldn't I learn? Dyslexia -- what is it? No one really knew. And then when I realized that there's a book called The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual" -- the handbook of mental disorders -- "and they voted on what goes in it, I said, 'This is bulls**t.' "
Indeed, how crazy! By comparison to this "scientific" nonsense, learning that his dyslexia was caused by alien ghosts playing the bongos in his temporal lobe whenever he tried to read makes perfect sense.
