personality harped on by Scientologists. Hinting that one is anti-social, or a suppressive person, keeps such a "vulnerablized" person introverted on his behavior. He doesn't wish his peers to consider him"evil".

The steps from vulnerable to Introverted are merely sequential. Normal reprimands of the consientious person who is constantly reminded that "You better watch out, you better not pout", will naturally lead him to introvert. Hubbard's insidious brow-beating policies maintain a populace who dare not be the first one to stop applauding Hubbard. This was Stalin's outstanding skill. This is the instinctual activity of a despotic leader.

Group members who are not so closely in touch with conscience are less impinged, and learn they can keep others cozying to them by drilling their will to be conscienable. These individuals keep well-intentioned persons vulnerable. These persons move up to the middle management of Scientology. This group of Scientologists are involved in "Button-Maintenance".

As long as you demonstrate vulnerability you are rewarded, but when you glaze over, you are subjected to the Ostracism Technology (Ethics Tech).

Hubbard knew that callous persons reacted to being controlled or helped, and developed the terminology, "Control Buttons" and "Help Buttons". The social personality maintains a sensitivity to the needs and wants of others. This is healthy vulnerability. He will accept "control" and "help" from others as necessary group functions. Hubbard daily drilled the implant of fearing to demonstrate buttons against control and help. The Scientology ethics and justice actions fine tune this vulnerability. Scientology Ethics condemns and ostracizes the non-vulnerable person as having control and help buttons-and brands him as anti-social. Other groups refer to this process as pressing one's buttons of fear and reward. Acceptance and rejection.

Thus Vulnerability is the quality to be cultured among the membership. Those who don't fall for this must keep the others in line-or spend time in the Scientology penal system for more intense implantation. The goal and end result is always increased vulnerability. Ordinary persons (the silent majority, the well-trained Christian-ethic, and the propitiative conformist) will always view these vulnerable individuals as "well-behaved", nice people. Judges, prosecutors, clergy, and others almost always fall for this layered behavior. This is the strongest defense and PR that Scientology has going for it.

There is a gradient technique ranging from asking, "Would you like others to have the same [warm feelings] you have received?", to labeling non-vulnerable persons as evil and psychotic, Hubbard's definition of the anti-social.
