The Scientology Lies web site has over 400 pages covering all sorts of
things, including allegations of illegal acts, information about
convictions, and an incomplete collection of picket reports.
I have about six million projects and updates I want to add to the site, but the sad truth is, I just can't seem to make any progress on more than about 2 million at any given time.
What's that you say, Bucky? You'd like to help? Well, YOU CAN! And, it's easy!
Just pick one of the projects below and go to it.
It's a good idea to "sign up" with me, by posting here or e-mailing me letting me know you've volunteered to work on something, to avoid the wasted effort of two (or more) people working on the same thing. However, if you're extremely careful about security and privacy, you can work on it without letting me know and simply mail me the final results on a CD. My mailing address is, as always,
Kristi Wachter 2443 Fillmore St #202 San Francisco, CA 94115
Here are the projects that come to mind, along with instructions on how
I'd like the data.
FOR ALL PROJECTS, I will want to put the data into a database. That means that, if at all possible, I'd like to get data from you in single lines, with tabs between the elements, and the same elements in the same order on each line. (It's really easy to do this sort of thing in Excel or other spreadsheet programs, although if you're careful you can also do it in a word processor.)
So, for example, if you were sending me info about disconnections, you would start with a line telling me what each item was:
Scientologist Name [tab character] Disconnectee [tab] Relationship [tab] Date [tab] Method [tab] Reason [tab] Comments [carriage return character]
Then you would have a line for each disconnection you could find:
Jane Clearperson [tab] Mary Clearperson [tab] Mother (Mary is Jane's mother) [tab] April 1972 [tab] disconnection letter [tab] Mary was writing to her senator [tab] Mary has never met her grandchildren [carriage return]
Any comments should be kept FAIRLY short - one sentence is ideal, and more
than five is probably too much.
While I would VERY VERY VERY much like the data to be sent to me in the
following formats, I am willing to accept fewer fields and would be happy
to have more - if there's more info you want to send me, that's fine.
In all cases, I'd rather have some info than no info. If you know
something happened in 1972 but don't know the month or day, tell me it was
1972. If you know it was August, tell me it was August. Whatever you can
find is helpful.
Also, in all cases, please send me a description of how you searched for
info, so I'll have an idea of what's been done and how. For example, if
you search Google for disconnection stories and cover the first 7 pages of
results, that'll give me an idea of what's been done so far. (Of course
those 7 pages of results will change over time, but at least it's SOME
info; better than NO info.)
Finally, keep in mind that much of this data, once it's been properly
assembled, can be reused in other pages - at the very least, anything with
a specific date can be included in the Today In Scn History posts.
If you'd like to help out but can't figure out what the heck I'm talking
about, drop me an e-mail with your questions and I'll try to clarify
things.
So - here, then, are the various kinds of data I'd like.

Court Cases
-----------
The excellent Court Archive at xenu.net is a good place to start; if you have access to the very old Maureen Garde collection, that would be useful, too.
Please put EACH ACTION (motion, deposition, filing, ruling) on its own line.
Date Plaintiff Defendant Case Number Event Comments Citation [name of the source where you found the data] Citation URL [if you found the data on the web]
Week In Review
--------------
Go through the Week In Review archives at xenu.net and write one-line summaries of each event.
Date Location Type [picket, press, court event, etc.] Summary Citation [name of the source where you found the data] Citation URL [if you found the data on the web]
Pickets
-------
Go through the a.r.s. archives on Google (or your own, if you have 'em) and note each picket report. Please concentrate on 6/2000-present or pre-1997; I THINK my database is PRETTY complete between those dates.
Date Location Type [picket, press, court event, etc.] Summary Citation [name of the source where you found the data] Citation URL [if you found the data on the web]
Orgs and Groups
---------------
Go through a.r.s. and the web and collect news about individual orgs and individual groups (Narconon, Criminon, HELP, etc.).
Date Location Type [picket, press, court event, etc.] Summary Citation [name of the source where you found the data] Citation URL [if you found the data on the web]
Refunds
-------
Collect info on refunds: who's asked for one, who's gotten one (partial or full), and how they did it. Include a separate line for each action: Ted Mayett picketed on this date and got $500, then picketed on that date and got another $500, and so on.
Date Person Amount Method [letter, picket, contact with a government agency] Outcome Comments Citation [name of the source where you found the data] Citation URL [if you found the data on the web]
Deaths, Suicide Attempts, and Psychoses
---------------------------------------
Using the FACTnet list and the excellent Mike Gormez list, compile the person's name, the date, and what happened.
Date Person Involvement with Scn [public, staff member, Narconon participant, etc.] Type [suicide, suicide attempt, suspicious death, mental illness, death from untreated medical condition] Comments Citation [name of the source where you found the data] Citation URL [if you found the data on the web]
There. Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head; I'm sure
I'll have LOTS more as I remember them.
Anybody else got projects they need help with? Surely there are some
lurkers out there who would love to roll up their sleeves and pitch in.
Thanks in advance - even if all you do is read this!
