Although it occurred in 1999, the story of the Men Without Heads kicked off the new year in a spectacular display of Scientology arrogance, which was mentioned in the mainstream media. The arrogance, of course, of underestimating the intelligence of both scientologist and wog alike, assuming that this poorly-executed, amateurish image manipulation would fool us into thinking there actually were several identical women with long, dark hair in red dresses sucking some dick growing out of a series of identical guy's heads!
The two deaths a month apart at Gold Base, which focused the local's attention on what they formerly thought was merely a golf course and movie studio.
Videotaped attacks on critics by Scientologists in Clearwater.
To top off Y2K, the beginning of the Raul Lopez vs Scientology trial, a case of extreme abuse of a disabled person. This one will be really hard for Dept. 20 to put a positive spin on. The public is bound to be absolutely repelled and horrified at the way the cult and individual scientologists took advantage of this poor guy. Lisa McPherson was bad, yes, but some people I've talked to think somehow that since she was a voluntary member of Scientology, she was partially responsible for what happened.
Lopez, on the other hand, is a disabled man, with permanent brain damage. He was not a scientologist, just a random victim. His disabilities are very evident, you don't often live through a head-on collision unscathed. Knowing of his condition, the cult and culties ripped him off anyway.
What a great way to end the year 2000, with a case that strips the mask away from the happy fun cult to reveal the true ugliness behind!
Yeah! Let's see you justify this one, you cult jerks! Did you really think you'd be in company with people who would rip off a disabled man for the monetary settlement meant to support him for the rest of his life? Really? If you weren't so busy dwelling in denial, you'd be revolted, as any truly ethical person would be!

"Every week, every month, every year, every decade and now
every century, Scientology does weird and stupid things
to damage its own reputation." - Steve Zadarnowski
1) The defection of Tory Bezzazian (hope I spelled her name right) and Greg & Debbie Barnes. These people were very well known in Scientology and their public defection just had to hurt the cult. Their stories can be found at <www.lisatrust.net> Also, the defection of Mike and Virginia although I am not sure when that happened. All of them were public Scientologists who had taken the highest level courses.
2) The headless man caper. Arnie Lerma caught them with their pants down, or least with a missing head. The "Post" took up the story and we all had a belly laugh at the pathetic attempt of the greedy cult trying to look big and impressive. Another PR disaster for the Cult.
3) Clearwater city manager M. Roberto decides that the city is too hot for him to stay in after losing a referendum backed by the evil cult of Scientology.
The cult had their foot (and more) into city hall at last. But it all came to grief in the end. A good example to other Clearwater politicians who want to turn traitor.
4)Howd vs. Minton. Scientology staffer Richard Howd took a fall from Bob Minton's picket sign and Minton was arrested. Dennis deVlaming gave the state and Scientology a good arse booting in court. Scientology looked predatory, Howd looked like a patsy and a fool and everyone wondered why the state had ever bothered with the charges. The newspapers did more than imply that the whole thing was a setup to get Minton in trouble, more bad PR for the greedy cult.
Somebody mentioned the "Lopez" case. Can we get the details of this?
