Dear FluffySquirrel -
I swore that I would never come back here again. But your post is so squirrely and misleading that I can't help it.
"Anyway, not like [Xenu] is a core belief of Scn. It's a belief, it's a part of it, sure, but anyone who tells you it's a core belief is mistaken."
You are not aware, obviously, of the analytical study of religions, and the classifications of their types of beliefs.
Because of that, you are not able to sort out the relevant importances within Scientology as a belief system, and this is a big reason you are still stuck in it.
So let me enlighten you.
A "cosmology" is part of any religion. It is the story of how things came to be, as told by that religion or belief system.
They all have them. It's part of their core structure.
For instance, the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden tells us where we all came from, and where all our problems started. It is a core belief in the Judeo-Christian cosmology.
In the exact same way, the Xenu story explains how man got to Earth, and where all his problems started since then. It's the basis for the core belief that Scientologists live in: we are all thetans who are trapped in bodies here on this prison planet, and only Scientology will free us from this horribly insufferable predicament.
In fact, this great and mysterious secret "discovery" by Hubbard is used to lure people to continue on in Scientology as a "mystery sandwich", don't ya know. They put up with all kinds of abuses as a Scientologist in order to one day reach total freedom because this basic Scientology truth of the universe has been revealed to them.
Not revealing this to them, in the mean time, is used to get Scientologists to suspend their ability to make conclusions and to use sound judgement about their involvement in Scientology.
They are told, "When you do your OT Levels, then you will understand why (fill in the blank)"
Not knowing this story causes a Scientologist to postpone judgement about their involvement until they know.
After the story of how all this came about is revealed, the whole world is seen through this story. Psychs, Government, Taxes, all serve to remind them of who they are and what trap they are in, and how important it is to remain a Scientologist.
But even if they think it's horse doo-doo, they now have the status of being a graduate of the secret OT levels, and others in the group look at them goo-goo eyed, and this is usually good enough for another fifty grand or so.
Sooner or later, the overwhelming majority of people who ever got themselves involved in Scientology wake up and leave. But not after spending over a hundred thousand, at least, and many years of their lives because of this manipulative "mystery sandwich".
Whether plastered on the walls of missions, or locked up in titanium vaults until one "is ready", the Xenu story is part of the cosmology of the Scientology Religion, and as such, it is a core belief.
I sure am glad you are not the only source for information about Scientology on the Internet, FluffySquirrel, 'cause if you were, we'd all be in big trouble!

Suggest you knock off the name calling and insults.
All that is indicated with those is an emotional response and a wish to be incivil.
The core belief of Scn is what I've described it to be.
As I said, that runs through every single process including the OT stuff previously described.
And, in any event, the main thrust of my post was answering Calista's question as to why B'net would not mention Xenu.
I very accurately described the fact that when B'net puts together a board, they consult with organized (party line) members of that particular religion or methodology.
I also differentiated between the way a church member would feel about it and another sort of Scn'ist would be.
I daresay if I were the only source of data re Scn two factors would be extant:
1) We'd all be bored silly as there'd be a paucity of variety
but
2) A balanced view of Scn would be provided.
And, re that "squirrel" crack? I have several CHURCH MEMBERS who are highly trained and so high on the bridge there's very little left for them to do - who read my stuff- particularly my comments re the OT levels and "core beliefs", and I pass muster every time.
So you've told a whopper here.
But all ~that~ is- is that non Scn'ist critics have a huge button on "core beliefs" and they always get extremely peeved when I take that very subject up.
Now, let's keep the ad hominems out and act like adults. If you cannot- or will not do that, then it's probably a good idea you rarely post much nowadays as such seriously detracts from efficacious criticism.
Have a nice day.
