They should be taken very seriously. People's lives are daily on the line here. When I first got online last year, I saw the NSA snagging sig of some anonymous remailer in Berkeley, California. It used words like plastique, AK47, etc to overload NSA's monitoring. I didn't get the joke, being a newby, and I went off about how the scienos were attempting to make the newsgroup look like potential crazies by planting fake bomb-threats in ars. At that time the story of Paulette Cooper was not widly known in the newsgroup. I referred to it in my explosive, but misguided, rant about the bombthreat. It should be told often that the scienos planted a forged bomb threat in a critical author's files and got her arrested and harassed by the FBI for years thereafter. It continued even after the FBI raided the scienos in 1976 and found the evidence of the frame. Millions of dollars are at stake. The top-poodle scienos might do anything to protect their golden goose. I know I am not the only one who feels the cold breath of his own mortality just over his shoulder. >Which also shows that you show read your posts and e-mail quite carefully >before one cries about threats. In some newgroups, these things are >taken seriously. For good reason born by experience. >Such claims can be expected to be challenged in ARS, where we are >involved in serious weirdness with consequences. We are playing for >keeps here. Some of us got our *sses on the line here. >I never meant to get Nenslo bumped off the net or any such thing, Of course not. He was just clueless and casual with his attempted humor. >merely >wanted him to take responsibility for his statements and stick with >relevant facts or admit he was hasty in his claims. That's what you asked for, in your own blunt way. >Lest he give aid and comfortto a rapacious cult that deserved little of >either. I think we can use this period of respite from the scieno dead-agenting and propoganda to get our own act together with regard to what "plays" on the newsgroup and what doesn't. The scienos will continue to publicly devolve and assault people's rights on internet. You can count on it. Til they're completely gone, they come back. We'll hear the next barrage right after Judge Whyte rules. Meantime, fair-use quotes and civilized wrangling between eSPees all helps to fashion the "character" of the newsgroup. And certainly, Pope, you greatly contribute to that. >Pope Charles >SubGenius Pope Of Houston >Slack! Back atcha. +--------------------------------------+ Rev.
