Since you issued the invitation, I guess now's the time. If I >violate some unsuspected bit of Netiquette, please be gracious. I will >endeavor to improve. You did fine. >I sought out this NewsGroup virtually as soon as I purchased my first >computer and signed on to my first on-line service. I caught wind of >the core of what's been going on by reading a couple of articles in >_Sceptic_ and _Sceptical_Enquirer_ magazines. It hardly seemed >possible that the actions described by those articles could actually >have happened. Well, I've done my homework like the well behaved >academic I am--I visited web sites and followed hyperlinks and read >_hours_ worth of materials. My conclusion is that the articles I >initially read hardly touched on the magnitude of the problem. Zane, >you may register my official vote soundly in favor of the ars critics >and against Snipperwhapper and his cronies. > >I am a biologist, and have a lot of experience with morons who have >apparently permanently disconnected any input devices to their brains. >I never thought I'd come across any group more outlandish than the >Creationists. I am humbled--they don't even run a close second to the >$cientologists. (I do like that subtle slur!) You don't know the half of it. >Now that I've finally gained the courage to post, I do have a couple of >questions I'd really like answered: > >1. In the case of Dennis Erlich (and similar "search and siesure" >assaults), how on Earth was a private organization like the Church >(sic) of $cientology able to so freely ransack private homes and >materials with (apparently) virtually no official presence! Surely >there should at least have been careful supervision of the choice of >materials they chose to confiscate! The Copyright law is written in such a way as to permit it under special circumstances. These laws need to be rewritten to only allow intrusion, writs or warrants if there is criminal activity, probable cause and due process under the Fourth Amendment and Fourteenth Amendment. >2. How in the universe does anyone keep up with this NewsGroup and >actually have a life as well! I don't think I've gotten more than 5 >hours' worth of sleep since I discovered it. Learn who to ignore. Once you've read one post from Milne or Cory, you've read them all. >Brionhet (Lynn Fancher) Be well. +--------------------------------------+ Rev. Dennis L Erlich * * the inFormer * *
