I've spent the last four hours reading some of the answers here. At least one "expert" is blatantly, fundamentally ignorant about depression: PLEASE take care when reading replies in this forum! Just because a person claims to be an "expert" does not mean that a person is! If you see any "expert" suggest Scientology or CCHR, please be very, very cautious when considering that person's reply.
ECT is an excellent and effective treatment for depression that resists all other treatments. It is safe and effective.
Anti-depressants are also totally safe and effective. They do not make one "worse," nor do they make you "angry" or "violent." If you read an "expert" who says otherwise, please realize that that "expert" does not know what she or he is talking about.
PLEASE seek expert medical advice from trained medical professionals--- take what you read in this forum with great skepticism. If you read an answer from an "expert" that suggests you not seek psycological or psychiatric advice and treatment, dismiss such "advice" because that "expert" does not know what she or he is talking about.
Your mental health and well-being is far, far too important to risk on taking advice from self-professed "experts" in this forum. Your telephone book will list psychiatric and psychological experts for you, and provide you with actual help and advice.
PLEASE BE CAUTIOUS HERE!

Rebafan,
I agree with you 100%!! I too have had some questions for a few advisours, and they really got offended, but I didn't care. I will tell you of one. This teens, Mother, was in the hospital for depressin, and was asking this expert what to do about the situation. He told the little boy, that she shouldn't be depressed at all, that she should "quote" Snap out of it" Unquote. I couldn't believe what I was reading. She said that if she was her mommy, thats exactly where she would be. I then of cours sent her a msg. and asked her why she told this young teen, that his Mother, could just snap out of it. I then told her that some people can't just "snap out of it" Well to make a long story shourt, she was very offended. He, The little boy said he was also depressed, and she didn't say anything pertaining to that issue, which should have been some counceling. I just don't understand some of these people on here. Some get their friends to rate them, which is cheating. It's not the points, it's if you help the person, and thats reward enough for me. Thanks for bringing up this issue.

Hi. Thank you for your reply.
The "reason" is both simple and complex. The "experts" where who claim depression is not an illness and that people can just "snap out of it" may belong to a criminal organization known as "Scientology." They are told to believe that mental illness does not exist! The "Larry Bergen" person is one such person. Since he believes mental illness is imaginary, why is here claiming to be an "expert?"
"[Scientologists] argued that Prozac is not a successful treatment for major depression, but simultaneously they maintained that major depression is not an illness and that much of neurobiology is wholesale fraud. Addressing this objection is like confronting the claim that a given satellite will not go into orbit, a discussion whose nature changes when you discover that you are having it with someone who believes the Earth is flat." -- Peter D. Kramer, "Listening to Prozac," page 327-328
They are taught that depression is caused by the murdered souls of aliens from outer space:
United States District Judge Leonie Brinkema, RTC v. Lerma, 1996 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 15454 (October 4, 1996) wrote:
"The dispute in this case surrounds Lerma's acquisition and publication on the Internet of texts that the Church of Scientology considers sacred and protects heavily from unauthorized disclosure. Founded by L. Ron Hubbard, the Scientology religion attempts to explain the origin of negative spiritual forces in the world and advances techniques for improving one's own spiritual well-being. Scientologists believe that most human problems can be traced to lingering spirits of an extraterrestrial people massacred by their ruler, Xenu, over 75 million years ago. These spirits attach themselves by "clusters" to individuals in the contemporary world, causing spiritual harm and negatively influencing the lives of their hosts."
You can therefore understand my concern.
