How do I tell if I am depressed. For the last few years I've just been feeling blue. Nothing seems to interest me anymore. I started feeling this way after losing a family member a few years ago and can't seem to shake it. I tried counseling but without much sucess. It is difficult for me to feel comfortable opening up to people. How do I overcome this problem.

Grief can easily turn into a depression. If you have experienced feelings of sadness for more than 6 months you should seek treatment.
One of the symptoms of depression is that you find it difficult to be articulate. That means it's hard to talk to people.
Medication can make a positive difference. There are many different anti-depressants and you may have to try a few before you get the best effects. A good psychiatrist who is familiar with psycopharmaceuticals is your best place to start. Then start looking for a therapist you can work with.
Treatment for depression is a lot like shoes in that you have to find the right fit for you. And in order to do that, you have to shop around and try them on.
You deserve to feel better. Make a sign for yourself and hang it on your mirror. Everytime you look at yourself in the mirror, tell yourself that you have a right to feel better.
Good luck. Feel free to ask me more questions while you look for your therapist.
