I have been treated successfully for chronic depression with Doxepin. I ran out and went without for two days. Yesterday was the first day back on it. I am having a terrible time with my depression. Should I expect the med to kick in soon or should I see about a med change?

What I would do is call the pharmacist and ask him what the shelf life is for Doxepin. How soon will the level of it in your bloodstream drop to a level that is not effective? How long does it take to build up to a therapeutic level? I use Paxil, for example, and I know that if I miss two days in a row, I get bad headaches, muscles aches, and start crying when kittens, puppies, or babies come on commercials on tv! It builds up again quickly in my bloodstream and I am ok .I try to avoid running out of it even though it is expensive and I am uninsured. As long as the other factors in your life have not made a radical change, I would give the med. a few more days to 'kick in'. Ask the pharmacist so you will know for sure. Frances
