Why doesn't society realize how bad depression really is?

The stigma attached to mental illness keeps many people afraid of telling the truth about depression. Thirty-three percent of the elderly are clinically depressed.

If people would only realize that depression is a chemical imbalance just as is diabetes or some other chronic illness.
