I have had feelings of being different and alone most of my life (I am 28). At age 19, I attempted suicide. After that, I just accepted the way I felt as a permenant thing. Last year, I was in a extremely mentally situation and was diagnosed as having severe/major depression. I was prescribed Prozac and although I didn't feel "better" I felt numb to the pain. I stopped taking it for fear of my military career. (the military is unaware of my suicide attempt and my diagnosis). Now the feelings are being more and more prevalent. Do you think I need to back on the medication?

I need to say something here. You need to find out the root of the problem because meds only cover up the problem. I know. I've been there and done that for so many years. I was on all kinds of meds and nothing was helping. I became addicted to some too!!! I got off all meds as of two years ago. I have never felt better. You see, this runs in my family. But I no longer have it because I faced my problems and for the longest time, I didn't even know what they were. Let me ask you something......How long were you on the prozac? Sometimes it takes awhile for it to work. Some meds don't work for some like they do in others. Please be careful

I was on Prozac for about 6 months.

It should of worked for you. Some meds usually take about 2 weeks. You need to go back to the doctor and let him know that this isn't working for you. You also need to ask him that if he gives you another med...ask him if you can become dependent on it. Buspar is a good one.
