Has anyone tried the drug Serzone to treat depression? and if so did it work...can you take it while breastfeeding? what does it do for you?

Hi, my name is Angela and I'm a social worker with most of my experience in the medical and mental health profession. I have never been on Serzone but I can give you information about it. First of all, it can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks before you notice a difference with this drug, so it is important to keep taking it and wait at least a month before giving up (talk to your doctor before doing so). It should be taken on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before eating) to achieve the best benefits. Most adults are started on 100mg twice daily and is increased by 100mg per week to about 600mg per day. This is at your doctor's discretion depending on your body size and level of depression. This drug works by interfering with the ability of nerve endings in the brain to take up serotonin and norepinephrine. This means more serotonin and norepinephrine remain in your brain to decrease feelings of depression. The most common side effects are: weakness, dry mouth, nausea, constipation, blurred vision, tiredness, dizziness, light-headedness, and confusion. That does not mean you will have these side effects, but they are the most common ones reported. Most of these side effects decrease the longer you stay on Serzone. My drug book said that there was no data regarding this drug and breast feeding. I can't tell you if it will work. Most antidepressants are trial and error type drugs; if one doesn't work, you move to the next one. This can be very frustrating but worth it when you finally find a drug that works for you.
