with all this talk about ethics ,I was curious as to the definition of the word and your personal veiws
ampito gave this response on 4/15/2000:
To me ethics is doing what is right. Something, such as using an expermential drug on a person may be legal, but if you are aware of adverse side effects and don't tell the patient of them in advance and get his/her permission to use it anyway, then it is not ethical. In the field of psychiatry, one of the most sacred trusts which comes under the heading of ethics is: thou shalt keep all information about your patient confidential unless it is legally mandated that you inform the authorities about the situation. To me, there is a difference between what is legal, what is ethical and what is moral. To do something, all three criteria must be met, in my opinion. I hope that this helps. I know that you could look the word up in the dictionary, so I didn't think that you wanted only the dictionary definition.
