Hello,
I must advise you NOT to receive electric shock for your condition. Or for ANY condition for that matter. My Mom had this so-called "treatment" and has never been the same (and I don't mean that in a good way). Her treatment was done in the 1950s. She been battling with horrible anxiety ever since.
There is something which occurs during electric shock which many potential recipients may not know --- A portion of the "blood-brain barrier" can be destroyed. No one knows how much. I imagine it varies per individual and depending on how many shocks one receives. This barrier is vital to the proper functioning of the brain. What it does is prevent certain chemicals from entering the brain via the blood. It has a sort of regulating effect. With a portion of it destroyed, you have no idea what is entering your brain and the effects ordinary things (like certain foods) may have on your emotions.
I am not a doctor, but I studied about this for a LONG time in an effort to help my Mom. Believe me, she has tried EVERYTHING, and to no avail.
My Uncle also received numerous ECTs recently (for mild depression). He is not the man I once knew. It's as though he is completely out of touch with reality.
I don't know much about you, obviously, but I do know that many times depression is a result of poor nutrition, especially not having adequate minerals and B vitamins. Since the liver is the great detoxifier of the body, perhaps this has something to do with your depression. I would suggest that you visit a naturopathic doctor who might be able to help you in this area.
Best regards, Helyn
