BASSCHIC asked this question on 4/6/2000:
I am a 41 year old female, my "shrink" put me on 20mg. prozac/day also 1mg ativan twice a day. Is this bad? I feel better and have been on it for approx 17 months. What do you recommend?

As long as you are feeling well on the regimen that your doctor has prescribed, why question whether it is OK or not? If it isn't broken, why fix it? As you probably have been told already, ativan is addictive. 2mg a day is a low dose, but since you have been on it for 17 months, you must be tapered off of the medication if you decide that you don't want to take it any longer. In my experience, most antidepressants lose their effectiveness after a period of time. If the prozac doesn't seem to be working very well in the future, talk with your doctor. There are a number of other antidepressants on the market that your doctor can try with you. Most importantly, work with your doctor as a team.
