I am currently taking an antidepressant that states "May cause weight gain." Does anyone know why this is? Is it because the medication increases your appetite or is it because it does something to your metabolism or is it all having to do with a change in brain chemistry?

Note: I am NOT a doctor!
The short answer is "Yes," many anti-depressants effect weight for many patients. The reasons for this are many and complex, but it has to due with amines and adrenal function.
The best "cure" for the weight gain associeted with anti-depressants is exercise. (Smiling!) It's a sad fact for lazy people such as myself, but true.
