From: Bryan Bedford
Subject: Violence against women -- special issue
A special issue of the Federation of Women Teachers' Associations of Ontario
(FWTAO) Newsletter (more like a magazine) is devoted to the topic of
Violence against women.
This special issue of the FWTAO Newsletter is in commemoration of the first
anniversary of the murders of 14 women at the Ecole Polytechnique in
Montreal on December 6, 1989:
Anne-Marie Edward Maryse Leclair
Michele Richard Annie St. Arneault
Maryse Laganiere Genevieve Bergeron
Maud Haviemick Sonia Pelletier
Helene Colgan Barbara Maria Klueznick
Anne-Marie Lemay Nathalie Croteau
Annie Turcotte Barbara Daigneault
In 1989, 119 women were killed wihin the context of a domestic relationship
according to data collected by the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics,
Statistics Canada. Millions of women encounter violence in their lives and
children in our country have been hurt by violence and abuse during their
lives.
This issue of the FWTAO Newsletter is for them -- for their suffering, for
their pain and to help them break free.
*Additional copies of this special FWTAO Newsletter are available by mail
