*In Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1980, 772 women were beaten to death by
their husbands.

*In the U.S. in 1986, 30% of female homicide victims were killed by
husbands or boyfriends.

*In Austria in 1985, 54% of all murders were committed in the
family, with women and children 90% of the victims.

*In the U.S., two million women are beaten in their homes each year.

*Pornographic material available on newsstands often shows women
chained, raped, mutilated or killed.

*In the U.S., one in three women will be raped. 60-70% of these will
be by someone the woman knows.

*In the U.S., one in three girls will be the victim of incest or
sexual assault before the age of 18.

*There are an estimated 30,000 child prostitutes in Bangkok.

*"Female circumcision" is widespread in the Middle East and Africa,
robbing women of sexual pleasure and causing health complications.

*Women in Gulf of Thailand refugee camps have been raped and
murdered. Eritrean women refugees in Sudan have been forced to
provide sex in order to secure protection.

*In many societies, if protein is scarce, it goes mainly to men.
Yet, as a rule, women work longer hours than men, and rural women
average an 18-hour day.

*In the U.S. it is estimated that one woman is battered every 15
seconds, with a rape being committed every six minutes.

*In the U.S. fifty-five per cent of all victims of domestic sexual
abuse are children under 11. Twenty-five percent of college women
surveyed have experienced rape.
