The following note, for your information (and your support, if you so
choose), was passed along to me by a Wyoming activist for abortion
rights, with the request that it be posted to appropriate Internet

WYOMING NARAL NEEDS HELP
TO KEEP ABORTION SAFE AND LEGAL
BY DEFEATING AN ABORTION BAN BALLOT MEASURE
------------------------------------------------------------------
Abortion opponents in Wyoming have secured a sufficient number of
signatures to place a measure on the 1994 general election ballot --
to effectively ban abortion in the state. Under the terms of the
proposed law, abortion would be illegal except in very limited
circumstances (reported sexual assault, reported incest, or
endangerment of the life of the mother). The language of the law
would ban, under penalty of lengthy prison terms, virtually all
abortions and certain forms of birth control.
Such restrictions represent a supreme interference with women's
liberties. The women of the "Equality State" must remain free to
make the most personal decisions confronting their lives, and doctors
should not be turned into criminals, facing the 14-year jail terms
this onerous measure would impose.
It is estimated that a campaign to secure freedom of choice in Wyoming
will cost at least $200,000. This is not just a state battle -- it
has national repercussions for all groups under attack by the Far
Right. It is imperative that Wyoming NARAL and other pro-choice
groups secure victory at the polls November 8.
Please make a financial contribution to help preserve constitutional
protections in these critical times! Send whatever amount is
appropriate for your situation. Contributions should be mailed to
Wyoming NARAL, P. 0. Box 271, Laramie, WY, 82070. (All gifts will be
acknowledged, and contributors will be kept up-to-date on the status
and progress of this fight to secure our rights.)
Thank you for your support!
