ATTN: Enforcement
INS Los Angeles District Office
300 N. Los Angeles Street
Los Angeles, CA 90012
Dear Sirs:
I happen to be aware of the longest running, unsolved computer crimes
ever. From November 1998 to October 1999 1.1 million articles (4
Gbytes) were forged--ten thousand or so in my name--and injected into
the news group alt.religion.scientology as a distributed denial of
service attack. Additional traffic was injected into a number of
other news groups in order to mask the origin of the attack. At an
estimated
five cents a post to carry and store Usenet traffic, 1.1 million
postings gets into the FBI’s financial interest range. (They got on
much smaller crimes of abusing phone calls to 800 numbers.)
The problem was that even though everyone knew who was behind the
forged postings the team covered their tracks well enough so that the
FBI could not find them or prove it was a Scientology operation.
Just recently a participant witness to this forgery scheme (who has
been out of Scientology for several months) came forward. Tory
Bezazian was part of the team, part of the subgroup which used mail
fraud and wire fraud to obtain the Internet Service Accounts which
were used to launch the attack.
Ms Bezazian wrote (in several sections) a detailed account of her part
of the attack and her growing understanding of what OSA (Office of
Special Affairs) was doing. You can read it at
http://www.lermanet.com/cos/toryonosa.htm. Unless you want me to make
you a printout, I will spare mailing you the 28 page account. With
Tory's report, and the general anti-scientology feelings in Washington
these days, we may see rapid law enforcement action on this crime.
The part which bring the INS into the picture is that the head of the
operation was Gavino Idda, an Italian citizen. I don’t know if he
was in the US at that time legally, but since he was the leader of the
largest criminal operation against the Internet to date, I am fairly
sure the INS would have an interest in this guy (if he is still in the
country).
The enclosed copy of a commendation letter to Ms Bezazian is signed by
Mr. Idda. It gives his post in Scientology’s hierarchy and
corroborates Ms. Bezazian’s story. I/C OSA Int is In Charge--Office
of Special Affairs, International. OSA is also known as Department 20
and at the time of the last FBI raid was known as the Guardian’s
Office or GO.
If I can be of service in helping you investigate this mater, please
let me know.
Sincerely,
H. Keith Henson
