My name is David Michael Rice. I am a long-time human rights activist that has lived most of my 44 years in the State of Califoria in the United States. My human rights activites have included lobbying for protection of the homeless, the mentally ill, and what can generally be lumped together under "women's rights," and has spanned some 25 years. Also during that time I have been a civil rights activist. I have given testamony in several tort cases regarding religious freedom issues.

I am writing regarding the fine gentleman name Keith Henson. I have had the honor, the privilage, of meeting Mr. Henson about five or six times, and had the honor of protesting and picketing gross crimes and human rights abuses with him. In addition, I have been honored to have received his letters and telephone calls regarding his human rights activities (as well as other people's human rights activities also discussed).

It is my opinion that Mister Henson is one of the truely great human beings I have met; In all of my dealings with him, he has always been, without exception, a compassionate, empathic, caring, and deeply ethical and moral individual.

My personal heroes include Voltaire, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Henry David Thoreau, Martin King Jr., Robert Green Ingersoll, Susan Brownell Anthony, Sojourner Truth, and John Brown. It is my personal estimation that Mister Henson is worthy of standing side-by-side with these Great Lights, and I have every respect and admiration of him. I do not pick my heroes lightly (as one can see by my list here), but Mister Henson is among them.

I had closely followed the sham trial against Mister Henson, and I was outraged and greatly angered at what the State had done to him. It is a matter of public record that Henson was not allowed to defend himself; in fact, when I tried to give testimony in the case to tell the jury that some of the actions the State attributed to Henson were actually COMMITTED BY MYSELF, I was refused the right to testify. Mr. Henson was not even allowed to say why he was picketing and protesting, nor what was on his picket signs. The State called his behavior criminal even though it was protected by the United States Constitution; this gross abuse also angers me.

It is my opinion that Mister Henson's life will be in mortal danger if he is deported to the United States. This opinion is based upon my eight years of study on the issues involved. If at all possible, I pray that Mister Henson be granted sanctuary in Canada.
