Except for a passing interest in the great sporgery attack of 1898-1999, attempts to get the FBI interested were uniformly ineffective before I left for Canada. Former special agent Eric Pham told me in 1997 or 1998 that the FBI was under orders *never* to investigate anything about scientology or other things calling themselves "religions." I didn't mention it on the net because I flat out didn't believe him.

Turned out he was telling me the truth because the policy was publicly reversed late in 2001 after the 9/11 attacks.

After a dozen times talking with the FDA, they leveled with me and said they had tried once and that was enough for them. The problem was that scientology perverted other parts of the government, particularly the courts, to attack them and they would never again try. A bunch of people sent in a certain cult document and later a number of them tried to FOIA the same document only to be told they didn't have it. Which indicates to me a policy of round filing any complaints about the cult and its lethal practices.

The problem was that the by the time the battle moved onto the net, the battlefield belonged to the cult and none of the previous opponents was even slightly interested in a second round. Didn't realize it at the time, but we were utterly alone.

That's the one bright spot, and it is still not all that bright. Thanks to Tom Cruise making a complete ass out of himself the papers are far less fearful than they used to be. (Also the cult hasn't even filed a suit against the media since the lost the case against the Washington Post for reporting about Arnie Lerma.)

Do you have *any* idea of how many unsolved murders there are in Riverside county? The place is the meth capital of the US (or was) and bodies are found out in the desert from drug deals gone bad all the time. Problems have been ongoing for two decades I know about.

(And there was the time someone got off a murder charge because the Coroner's office, now part of the Sheriffs's office, released the wrong body and a murder victim was cremated before being autopsied.)

Years and years before Kobrin got my attention I went dumpster diving and got a suicide note that had been tossed by the coroner's office where they guy admitted murdering someone. I have passed it around, but nobody can think of anything useful to do with it. If you want a copy, ask and someone will send you one.

Point being that the cult could kill a dozen and if they had any ability to influence the investigations, the murders would sit in the unsolved file for decades. (Long as they didn't gun them down in public of course.)

The two murders I was protesting in 2000 were "depraved indifference murders. Ashlee was killed because the staff was trying to get grounds work finished before DM came back that night. Sigh, if he had been coming along that road 30 minutes earlier *he* might have been decapitated by the front loader blade.
