I'm not a medical person, much less a forensic person, but I think I
understand something about the filing Dr. Joan Wood made yesterday. As it
was explained to me, there are two different findings. The first is the
cause of death. This is the physical or chemical reason the person died. A
bullet entered the heart, or toxic levels of cocaine in the body, or
massive trauma to the chest. The second finding is more why the person
died rather than how. IIRC, there are only four manners of death defined
in Florida. Homicide, suicide, accidental, natural. If it's none of those,
then it's undetermined.
If I read the articles correctly, Dr. Wood has changed the manner of death
from undetermined to accidental, but she hasn't changed her finding that
the cause of death was dehydration and excessive bed rest, which resulted
in a pulmonary embolism. I hope the prosecution and civil case continue,
regardless of this new finding. Scientology killed Lisa through neglect.
The caretakers were frozen out of fear of their superiors in the Sea Org.
