Lisa McPherson, a "Church of Scientology" member for several years, was involved in a minor traffic accident in Clearwater, Florida (USA), on November 18, 1995, during which she appeared delirious, taking off all her clothes and asking the paramedics who responded to that accident for help. She was taken to a local hospital which released her in that condition to Scientologists who pretended they were going to transfer her to other medical care but instead took her to the "Church's" "Flag" headquarters there, where she was held for three weeks, losing forty pounds and becoming severely dehydrated. On December 5, McPherson was driven past a number of hospitals to one where a doctor who was a Scientologist was on duty, where she was pronounced dead. A couple of years later, in 1998, local prosecutors brought two charges against the church, practicing medicine without a license and criminal neglect of a disabled adult, which would have involved only fines, and then dropped those charges a couple of years later, in 2000. No charges against any individuals have ever been brought. It is surely time for a Federal Grand Jury to hear the facts of this case, and to decide whether there is reason to believe that those directly involved in such treatment of McPherson should be indicted in this case, and stand trial in Federal court. And should those individuals be so indicted, tried and convicted, they should be taken back before that Grand Jury, immunized from further liability and then compelled to testify as to any involvement of higher-ups in the Church of Scientology in the case, in the classic legal strategy with regard to the prosecution of complex conspiracy. -- tinmimus99@hotmail.com
