Offense Death Investigation Date of Report 12/31/96
Scientology, I asked if he would speculate on what may have
caused Lisa to act the way she did at the time of her auto
accident. He stated that a lot of the Church courses tend to be
very long and hard and a lot of people have minor breakdowns.
Depending on what level Lisa McPherson was at, and if she
actually did want to leave the Church, she may have just
previously undergone what he called a Sec Check (Security
Check). This means that they would put her on an E meter and
continually ask her what the problem was and why did she want
to leave the Church even if she continued to answer that she
did not want to leave the Church. He stated that this may have
been one of the reasons Lisa was acting so strange at the
accident scene.

LOCATION: 644 Pierce St. PAGE I OF 2
INVESTIGATOR: Det. Ron Sudler
ARRESTS:
IMPOUND INVENTORY:

PREV CASE STATUS: Active
NARRATIVE:
I contacted Investigator Scott Carey, of the Pinellas County
Medical Examiner's Office, and was informed that Lisa McPherson
was treated at Morton Plant Hospital following a motor vehicle
accident she was involved in on 11/18/95. Medical records
indicate that McPherson was transported to Morton Plant
Hospital by ambulance, because McPherson had apparently
disrobed after the accident and was walking in the nude.
McPherson's physical and mental health was evaluated by the
attending physician, Dr. Lovett, and she was sequently released
from the emergency room. Shortly thereafter, Lisa McPherson,
began her stay at 210 S. Ft. Harrison Av., Clearwater.
CPD records revealed that on 11/18/95, Officer Ferro and
Officer Stonelake were dispatched to Belleview Bv. and S. Ft.
Harrison for an accident at that location. The call was cleared
with a "Blue Form", no report was taken.
On 12/19/95, I conducted an interview with Fannie McPherson,
Lisa's mother, at CPD Headquarters. During this interview, Ms.
McPherson provided me with a copy of the "Blue Form" accident,
and informed me that her daughter's car had been towed to
Classic Auto Towing, at 1007 Park St., Clearwater. After
meeting with Ms. McPherson, I went to Classic Auto Towing and
took polaroid photographs of Lisa Mdpherson's vehicle, a red
Jeep Cherokee, with damage to the front grill, hood, and
bumper. These photographs will be retained as part of the case
file.
I called Dr. Davis of the Pinellas County Medical Examiner's
Office and discussed Lisa-McPherson's motor vehicle accident
with him and what correlation, if any, it may have had with her
death. Dr. Davis said that a Mcpherson died from an embolism
and it was not undommbff for-arf embolism to occur following an
injury, surgery, or prolonged inactivity. Dr. Davis said that
further tests were being performed and the final autopsy report

would be forthcoming. Dr. Davis also requested that I meet with
him to further discuss the facts and circumstances of this
case. A meeting with Dr. Davis was scheduled for 02/14/96, at

since the initial request on 12/06/95, 1 have not received any
information from Brian Anderson, Office Of Special Affairs,
Church of Scientology, concerning Lisa McPherson's stay a 210
S. Ft. Harrison Av., the whereabouts of personal property
removed from her room, and the credentials of Dr. Arrunada and
Dr. Johnson. Therefore, on 01/29/96, I sent a letter to Mr.
Anderson, with a copy to Attorney Robert Johnson, requesting
the above information. On 02/08/96, 1 received a response from
Mr. Johnson, who indicated that Lisa McPherson's personal
effects were delivered to her mother. Lisa's visit with the
Church of Scientology was for rest and relaxation following her
automobile accident, and neither Dr. Arrunada or Dr. Johhnson
are licensed to practice medicine, they merely act as a liaison
for staff members and parishioners. A copy of the letters will
be placed with the case file.
Investigation continues. Case status remains active.

Dear Mr. Anderson:
since our meeting on December 6, 1995 I have not received a
response from your office concerning the whereabouts of the
personal effects of Lisa McPherson that had been removed from
room number 174 prior to my examination of the scene.
Furthermore, I have not received a description of Lisa
McPhersonfs activities during her stay at 210 S. Ft. Harrison
Av., especially any physical activities she may have been
involved in.
At this point in the investigation, it is imperative that I
ascertain as much Information as possible about Lisa
McPherson's activities during the last few weeks of her life.
In the near future, I will be meeting with the Medical Examiner
to evaluate the circumstances of Lisa McPherson's lifestyle
which may have been a factor in the physiological processes
leading up to her death.
Due to the fact that Dr. Janice Johnson, Medical Liaison
officer, and her assistant,, Dr. Laura Arrunada,, were
instrumental in the evaluation of Lisa McPherson's medical
condition and her subsequent referral to Dr. Minkoff at HCA
Hospital in New Port Richey, would you provide me with a job
description detailing their duties, responsibilities, and
medical credentials.

Dear Detective Sudler:
We are responding on behalf of Church of Scientology Flag
Service Organization to your letter of January 29, 1996,
directed to Brian Anderson. Mr. Anderson was unaware of any
prior request for information you may have directed to him. We
apologize for any misunderstanding this may have caused. The
responses to your current questions are set forth below.
The personal effects of Lisa McPherson that were removed from
Room 174 were delivered to her mother. Those personal effects
consisted of three or four bags of luggage and a purse. The
contents of these items were not inventoried.
Ms. McPherson's stay at the Fort Harrison Religious Retreat was
intended to provide her with rest and relaxation. She had been
involved in an automobile accident and may. have suffered some
physical trauma and mental anguish. The Church provided her
with safe and familiar surroundings.
According to Church policy, the Medical Liaison Officer is the
liaison between the ill or injured staff member or parishioner
and the applicable medical or dental practitioner. As many of
the parishioners and staff are from out of town, they do not
have family doctors or dentists with whom they are familiar.
The Medical Liaison officer helps to find a doctor or dentist
for parishioner so that all of their health needs are met.
