I've just been looking at older Co$ publications. There's a Freedom Newspaper issue 6, copyright 1996 from Clearwater that they used to distribute there. This appears to have been printed in the summer of 1996, before any critic knew anything about Lisa McPherson's death.

The Baker Act is a Florida law that allows a person to be held for psychiatric observation if they appear to be having mental problems. That's about all I know about it except it comes up in Lisa McPherson's case at times because the medical person who interviewed Lisa after her accident decided not to Baker Act her, which would mean to hold her for observation. This medical person recommended that Lisa stay for oberservation because of her odd behavior, but apparently she was not deemed to be a danger to herself or others, and the Scientologists who insisted on taking her from the hospital promised to care for her.

I find it interesting that Freedom decided to harangue against the Baker Act not long after Lisa's death, and before her story became publicly known.

Also in this issue is Scientology's funny version of our first picket in Clearwater. They smear Dennis Erlich, Steve Fishman, and Arnie Lerma, who were some of the 18 protesters at the first picket in March of 1996. While Lisa McPherson was dying in December 1995 we were planning this first picket. The first I ever heard of Lisa, though, was in November of 1996.
