Appellate Court Denies Scientology Appeal on Battery Count
On May 15, 2003, the appellate court, the 2nd District Court of Appeal, unanimously denied the appeal filed by Scientology on Judge's Schaeffer's denial of its Motion for Summary Judgment on the Battery Count. Scientology had argued that it was unquestionable that it acted reasonably in restraining Lisa McPherson and battering her throughout her 17 days of isolation due to her mental status. Now the jury will decide this issue.
