Report on Mark Bunker's hearing today, April 4th, in Chicago from a knowledgeable source.
Mark had a court date today. Sylvia Stanard was in attendance, as was Elliot Abelson. Mark's lawyer has requested a jury trial; next court date is April 26th.
The prosecutor says that there's evidence of a hate crime, and they will be introducing this evidence during the trial. They also were complaining about Mark being in Connecticut for CultInfo.
I guess they gleefully videotaped him while he was there, and told the judge that since he said that Mark could travel freely between Chicago and Florida, he was bail-jumping, and demanded an increase in bail. They also wanted Mark to be forced to stay in Illinois again, I think.
The judge, who had said that if Mark travelled all the way from Florida to Chicago on $75 bail the last time, said that Mark was free to travel anywhere he wanted, and denied the motion to limit his movement, as well as the motion to increase his bail.
Scientology has claimed that Mark has gone around "terrorizing" the church and its members, and the prosecution once again brought up this alleged arrest in California, which Mark is clueless about. He says he has no idea to what they're referring; he's never been arrested in his life, with the exception of the Chicago incident.

OK, here we go. Here are some useful names and addresses. I would write to the governor and attorney general of Illinois to protest the supression of Mark's First Amendment rights and the trumped-up charges designed to cover up the complicity of the police. I'd still like someone out there to post the name and mailing address for the prosecutor and the district attorney.
I plan to stress that crucial evidence which would conclusively prove Mark's innocense *disappeared* while in police custody. The claim by prosecutors that there was no tape in the camera is simply not credible. Mark is an experienced journalist and videographer, etc, etc...
Then, some letters to the Feds may be in order, since Mark's civil rights were obviously violated, and continue to be violated by this baseless prosecution.
