The "dynamics" are normally the sources of a person's value-judgments. They are also the target of a group which practices mind control. In non-Scientology terms, the dynamics correspond to: race, temperament, environment, training, and parentage. Those are the things which can make people behave the way they do. If you change one of those things, you are potentially changing the way a person behaves. You can never change race or parentage, and you cannot totally change temperament. But through training and environment, significant modifications can be made to temperament. Changes in temperament result in what psychologists have called the "cult personality" or "brainwashing."

L. Ron Hubbard re-classified the five components of behavior into "dynamics" and gave them a new characteristic: the new characteristic was that the source of all "valid" value-judgments became Scientology. So Scientologists no longer make decisions based on self, family, group, mankind, life, physical universe, thought and god. They make decisions based on Scientology, which is the source of all "valid" value-judgments for self, family, group, mankind, life, physical universe, thought and god. It is very important to realize that the Scientologist believes this decision is a private, personal decision. Scientology calls this state of tranference of ideas "impingement." Impingement is necessary so Scientology can claim that the remarkably uniform opinions of its members are all a result of individual decision.
