So now the LMT site is gone. Considering the overwhelming resources the
cult has put behind making this happen, I'm surprised it too as long as
it did. But guess what? - the work continues. Just like when they took
over CAN, just like when the Lisa criminal case got dropped, or when they
got Keith Henson convicted, and when they finally got to Bob.
The LMT site was my first contact with the dark side of Scientology.
Working near the Org in Toronto, I'd seen them but never thought much
about them, aside from considering them to be some sort of self-help
thing, like Eckankar or est. I was actually looking up some stuff on
Amway ( my parents were in for a while) when some search engine link
turned up Lisa's name. I can't remember what the connection was now.
But, after reading the Lisa story and the other articles on the LMT site,
I realised that informing the public about the dark side of the cult was
a good thing. See, that's the thing about this fight of ours - a lot of
people know that addictions like drugs and alcohol are bad, that the
Hells Angels are not the cream of society, and that the Cosa Nostra is
not an association of plumbing salesmen. But a lot of the general public
thinks like I did, assuming they pay any attention at all - that the Co$
is some sort of harmless self-awareness group. It's not until they read
the documentation on the 'net that it all sinks in.
A few weeks ago a colleague of mine started asking me questions that he
had obviously remembered from the Personality Test. It turned out that
he'd taken the test at the Toronto Org, and had signed up for a couple of
introductory courses, and wanted me to go too. ( Ya, righhhhhhhht....)
Before then he'd known nothing of Scientology other than the
Cruise-Travolta-etc. celebrity connection. I carry business cards with me
that list both the main Scientology websites and the main critical
websites - I'll have to print new ones now, dammit- I gave him one, and
asked him to look at both sides and get back to me. After doing some
reading, his reaction was the same as most people I do that to - " Holy
Shit! I had no idea!"
So much for his involvement, and his girlfriend, and most likely anyone
else he talks to about it.
We may lose the Lisa civil trial, if there is one. We may lose prominent
critics. We may lose important websites. But the critical work, the
necessary work of informing the public of the dark side if the cult will
continue, one or two or a few people at a time.
As long as they continue to hurt people and abuse the law, there will be
people to oppose them.
Just my bigoted, hate-mongering, anti-religious, terroristic opinion, of
course, but there ya go....
