Stacy brooks has been subjected to considerable abuse recently on this
Newsgroup. I'm publicly say that she does not deserve this and I would like to
say a few things from my perspective.
I am a former Scientologist and a former CAN (Cult Awareness Network) staff
member. From this background I am known to some degree as an active anti-cult
activist. I am somewhat known publicly around the Chicagoland area in this
capacity. Regularly, I get calls from people who have a Scientology problem,
that is to say a family member has been lured into Scientology. I advise them
as best I can, depending on the situation. Sometimes I get together with the
people involved. I have had some degree of success in helping people get out
of Scientology and sometimes have been able to help them get their money back
or help in seeking legal counsel.
One person who has been of particular help to me is Stacy Brooks. I have
called her at the LMT quite a number of times or emailed her to get her advice
on a particular situation. She was always available to help and her advice and
counsel was always right on. Sometimes I would ask her if she would speak to
specific persons. She always did and was always helpful to these people.
There is a lot that she has done that is not known publicly or broadly.
I called Stacy about two Chicago dentists ( husband and wife) who contacted me.
They had left Scientology and were attempting to get their money back from the
Chicago Church of Scientology. The result of that call was that Mark Bunker
came to Chicago to film an interview with the dentists. As many of you know,
Mark was arrested outside the Chicago Org on a phony trespassing charge. Stacy
and Bob Minton came to Mark's aid and engaged an attorney. Mark had to come to
chicago a number of times and the whole thing was quite costly to Bob Minton.
But neither Bob nor Stacy flinched in their determination to help people.
I have always found Stacy Brooks to be extremely helpful, very knowledgeable,
very available, courteous and very courageous.
The LMT was a perfect vehicle for her mission and her talent. It's too bad
that so many things have converged to destroy the LMT but in its short
existence it did a world of good. Let us not forget this.
I salute you, Stacy.
